    Cpap

    Hi NFOX
I have had my machine for ap 3 months and I have had three masks issued by the sleep clinic, you will be very aprehensive and it is a strange sensation breathing pressurised air, but if you can relax and take it very gently, practice wearing the mask during the day without being conneted and you should be able to get used to the mask and machine. It will not be easy but when you do crack it you will have a very resfull nights sleep with no sleepy spells the following day.
Do try and make sure you are comfortable with the mask before you leave the sleep clinic, if you experience leakage talk to the clinic and let them know of your experience.
You may get rainy nights from the humidifier carry over and this is normal and until the health service issue heated hoses or you buy one yourself it is just a minus point to bear in mind.
Do remember you have to persevere with the equipment to get the benifits.
Good luck and keep us informed how you get on
    Stefan

      Mathmatics of apnea

If a normal life without apnea = 1

Then a life with sleep apnea = 0.75 or worse

80% of of those with sleep apnea who are offered CPAP learn to use it.

For those 80% the value of CPAP can exeeed 0.25

So if for example the value of CPAP is 0.50 Then the CPAP user gets a life value of 0.75 + 0.50 = 1.25

So that means those with sleep apnea who use CPAP get a better life than normal humans.

If you believe this then you are in for a very interesting time.

Statistically those that believe that CPAP will benefit them get the most benefit.

This is how it worked for me just don't tell the normal humans as they may get jealous.

When browsing the forums, remember they are visited by people who have problems, not by the many who get on absolutely brilliantly with CPAP every night (not as much anyway). This makes CPAP look worse than it is as the topics here are not representative of the actual success/failure balance.

It's a shame you still have to wait that long, I thought by now the 18 weeks would have been consistently beaten.

I do agree with what james says.

I am a newbie on these forums here and still rather a newbie into sleep apnea although had it for almost 2 years now!!

I do get a little dis-heartend to see that most the topics you see are all on big problems and for anyone reading those just diagnoised with OSA and other sleep problems requiring CPAP use I really think it will put people off!

I know may be the wrong place but I really do feel that mine and my partners machine has made a huge difference to the quality of our lives and think that a lot of it has only been made possible by the wonderous staff we have at our local sleep lab at Aintree Hospital.

How about we create a thread refeering to the positives and help people see that CPAP is not all bad and problems can be overcome.

Mind you it seems the knowledge of users here from beginners to long timers (sorry no disrespect here!!) is very vast and ususally someone has an answer which is very very reasuing!! Thanks guys!!

Good idea pilewis. There's a default message up the top for those not logged in. I'll think of something that reassures newbies that the below topics are not representative of the great success achieved with CPAP. Will give it some thought!

Keeping Positive + Comfort = Success!

                      Hi nfox46

A positive attitude and the best comfort are the key to success!

Loof at the mask section of the forum and it is filled with endless pointers to provide the most comfortable solution when you get your head down.

You may also be interested that OSA can be a trigger for diabetes
If untreated it can also lead to high blood pressure and ultimately an enlarged heart - not good!

So CPAP WORKS - its so simple yet so effective!
I liked to mathmatical equation - the results can be greater than the sum of their parts - I AGREE - IT IS TRUE (Lets keep it a secret! (no way!)

                      Cheers
