  • The technical bits

I've had my cpap machine,a fisher paykel sleep style 2000 with ambiant tracking, for a couple of months, and at my 3month checkup was feeling confident enough to enquire about evaluating my progress.
Unfortunately the response I received was not as expected. 'Your doing very well' was the reply. Not one to be side stepped, I asked how she knew this, 'By what you are saying' and all the time fiddling with the machine ( was she resetting it ?) who knows.
I actually hadn't given her a progess report apart from 'Not too bad' so I enquired if there was a procedure/process of review to quantify a before and after senario and the reply was 'No' we don't do that'
I must say I was disappointed with this somewhat dismissive/unhelpful response. My whole visit, after travelling an hour, for a 9am appointment, being kept waiting for 25 minutes, lasted the grand total of 5minutes, including provision of spare filters, spare nasal pillows and a machine check. As the only patient I did wonder what the rush was!
Hardly a real patient focused approach.
Not having been provided with an instruction manual, I took to the web for the product information but the technical jargon is unfamiliar. However undaunted, I have managed to adjust the temperature settings and sucessfully eliminated the 'rain out' I was experiencing.

Now I need to find out how episodes of Apnea are recorded if at all, or is the number of increases in pressure output that are measured?
Is there anyone out there who can help me interpret the 'modes' on this particular model, I would be very appreciative.
    Keen to learn

    Better off than here!

    Hi Bullie4you

You should be so lucky! as to get that sort of treatment! You are better off than in Southampton by all the goodies they gave you - their patient approach is remarkably similar to my experience.

If you give James a ring on the Intus number, I think you'll find him most helpful in answering your questions - and a few besides.

Patient focussed appoach- or lack of!

      Hi Tigers Fan,
Thanks for your reply and advice, I'll give James a try.
Appears you are a neighbour as I'm just across the border in West Sussex.
Being a Social Care Professional and in liason with health professionals on a daily basis, it never ceases to amaze me that attitudes and values are still so archaic. Even being used to challenging the system for others it still comes as a shock to be on the receiving end of a service.
      regards

I am in Oxfordshire and am also a health care professional, we have a very good consultant here and the clinic is very helpful. They are just strapped for cash and wont give you an APAP but they are very good with letting you try different masks
