  • Newly diagnosed user - Drowning!

    Hi all,
Yes i am literally drowning. Since my cpap machine check a few days ago I have been woken several times with water spraying up my nose!
Moisture is accumulating in the hose and either the gurgling noise or the spray of water is a rude awakening.
I am wondering if the settings were adjusted at the time of the check up, but I have no idea how to remedy this situation as I was not provided with an instruction manual.
I am wondering if the water temperature is to low.
I've got a Fisher & Paykel Sleep Style 200 model. Does anyone know how to reset this model?
    Any suggestions welcomed please.

    Angle of dangle again

    Hi Bullie4you

Welcome to the forum and the World of Hose.

Try putting the machine lower than your mask so the condenstae runs back way from you. Not on the floor for reasons of dust, though.

Long term, you need a heated hose but these are expensive (Sleepzone, Australia).

      angle of dangle

      Hi Tigers fan,
Just Love your sense of humour! Thanks so much for your reply,
really cheered me up. ( and I thought getting my bus pass was bad enough )
I'll certainly try your advice and report back.
Have only joined this am and have been reading some of the posts- everyone seems to be so knowledgable on the subject- its all still a mystery to me and have been feeling a bit isolated. These forums will undoubtably help though
      regards Bullie4me

        Condensation

I have been given a cover by the clinic, for my hose and it certainly works to keep the hose warm, the condensation problems I was having have been significantly reduced. I understand James has them if you are unable to get your clinic to supply.

          Hi Mr Stefan,
Well I've heard of W...Y Warmers but this is a new one on me! Perhaps I'll knit one!!
Sorry, don't mean to be facetious. Quite a logical outcome really.
I also tried repositioning my cpap machine a little lower and managed 6hrs sleep- a record so far - without interuption. so quite chuffed.
seriously, will investigate hose cover options - certainly cheaper than hiking up the heating.
          regards Bullie4me

            Hose Problems

I was initially informed by the clinic to postion the hose under the duvet to keep it warm, which does work in a fashion but it tends to drop out and then you wake up with a drip or a splash on your face, you have to reposition things and it's disturbed sleep which is what 'we' are trying to prevent. Having the machine lower does assist in allowing the bulk of the condensation to run back into the humidifier.
I live in the north of England, in Cleveland and my clinic have been very supportive, changed mask three times and now given me hose cover, so I am very positive that we will resolve any future issues. Hope you do eventually get a solution to your problem but do speak to your clinic first, see if they are willing to and can assist you.
            Mr Stefan

Hi my husband has been diagnosed with sleep apnea, but we think he has been wrongly diagnosed. He is having the same problem we are ready to chuck the machine out the door. Help
