  • newbie - my first night is tonight.....

Hi, got my machine on a trial today. My first night is to tonight and a bit scared.....

I am 41 and have the apnoea I am sure because of weight gain. I used to be really fit, cycling hundreds of miles and lots of weight training but have put on about 50lb. I have lost 12 lb but the apnoea is such that I will be banned from driving unless it is controlled. I am a consulting engineer, driving round teh country and find I am constantly exhausted. If I couldnlt drive it would be a disaster for me and my family.

Anyone been on CPAP and come off it because of weight loss??

I don't want to spend the rest of my life relying on a machine to help me breatheat night.

    Whats the thoughts guys?
    Regards, Steve

    Hi Steve,

    Welcome to the hoseworld.

Don't worry about it too much, you might want to try putting the mask on for an hour or so before you try going to sleep (while watching telly, reading a boook or whatever floats your boat) to get you used to it a bit. If you're lucky you will still have the mask on in the mormning but it's also fairly likely that you will wake up maskless.

CPAP isn't neccessarily for life, our very own Puffin lost a load of weight after successfull bariatric surgery and has left our merry band so weight loss can definately help.

    Good luck,
    Regards, GV
