setting up CPAP ?

Seeing all these machines here, I presume people buy their favourite machine or try different ones out.
I can see, like my sister, that A smaller one is useful for travelling. She is very capable but not technically minded so ask the salesman at ResMed to set it up for her which he did . Although he did put it to APAP which worked fine as it did her settings to exactly her normal settings.

The main question I have is can all APAP machines be set by the user?

The second question is about the NHS and your own machine, can you have your own machine on the NHS?

Thank you for your post.

The company that you purchase your CPAP machine from should set your machine up before sending it to the end user, and not by the end user themselves.

You would need to ask your NHS trust whether you can use your own machine with them, as they can remotely monitor the NHS machines, and each trust can vary in what machine they use.

It seems that the trusts also vary their machines. They buy them in bulk and so as machines and prices change they change their go to machine.

It must also mean that they "run" the older machines at the same time. Possibly many types.

It also seems (but I don't know yet) ( but NICE guidelines say) to use the fixed mode.

I'm learning as I go along. It seems that by the time I get CPAP it will be a year after a diagnosis of severe OSA.

Hi,

You could try contacting your NHS trust, advising them of your situation, and asking if it would be possible for them to offer the same support if you bought a machine like one they supply.

I also looked at the Intus plus service and thought about how that service would have suited “zorro”, compared to the problems he had with the nhs. 20:20 hindsight though.

I could possibly end up in the same situation as I’m close to getting CPAP and may spend the interim time enjoying myself

CPAP therapy is great once you have found the right mask for you. It is the gold standard treatment for sleep apnoea.
