    First night with machine

It's a Prisma Smart Max machine. The technician said no filters, and it doesn't need water.

I hope I manage to tolerate the nasal mask, but a bit worried because I sleep with my mouth open, try not to but it seems to happen.

Does anyone else have this machine?

    Wish me luck.

    Hello Daisy.

    Thank you for your post.

Most CPAP machines do have filters which need to be changed or washed regularly.
You only need to add distilled or filtered water if you have a humidifier attached to you CPAP machine.

With regards to the mask, if you breathe through your nose only then you can use a nasal mask. If you breathe through your nose and mouth (ie if you snore) then you would need a full face mask. See how you get on with the nasal mask, as you will soon see if you need a full face mask.

Do you have any specific questions about the machine that I can help you with?

Hello Kelly, thank you for your message. My first night last night wasn't good. With my mouth closed I felt like I was suffocating, I expected to feel a slight air flow but I felt nothing.

This morning I pushed the on/off button and the air flow was very intense, without the mask on.

Ive contacted the supplier, they said the reason I felt i was suffocating was because I had my mouth open.

I was breathing through the nose with the mask on, couldn't feel any airflow, mouth closed, but felt horrible. Didn't sleep, ended up removing it .

Airflow is set to 4 for 6 hours. I'm convinced it wasn't working whilst I had it on. I can't make adjustments, only the supplier can.

      Thanks for your help.

        Good Afternoon,

        Thank you for your reply.

The 1st night on CPAP is normally eventful. It does take time to adjust to using and sleeping whilst using the CPAP equipment.

If you have an auto CPAP machine (it will say auto somewhere on the machine if you have one), there are normally set with a lower pressure of 4cmh20 and an upper pressure of 20cmh20. So if you put your mask on and turn the machine on it will start at 4cmh20 and stay there until you fall asleep. The pressure will then increase and decrease it as and when you need it to reduce your sleep apnoea events.

If you do not have the mask on your face and turn the machine on it will blow a gale.

If you mouth was open then the supplier should be advising you that you need a full face mask or a nasal mask and chin strap.

When you say - Airflow is set to 4 for 6 hours. Is your machine a fixed pressure machine set to a pressure on 4cmh20 only?

If you can let me know then I will see what I can suggest. You are welcome to email me at [email protected] if you would prefer.

        Kelly
