Just been given a machine a few days ago (Resmed) started off using APAP mode with hasn’t worked so far. Using full face simplus mask.An ENT has confirmed my tonsils being very large and we are looking at surgery. I have moderate sleep apnea. I’m 22, slim. I can hear my airway closing kind of like a snore if I lie back and exhale, so I think this is the cause of my apnea. In this case, does anyone know which setting could potentially work for me. I feel that using apap won’t fix my problem as the pressure lowers as you exhale where as I need the tonsils always pushed out the way. Any suggestions? I am suffering here.

CPAP or APAP mode for my issue?

Good Morning,
Thank you for your email.
If you have an auto CPAP machine, then these are normally set with a pressure range of 4-20cmh20. When you pop your mask on and then turn the machine on, the pressure will start at 4cmh20 and stay at this pressure until you go to sleep. Once asleep the pressure will increase and decrease as and when you need it so the pressure settings on the machine do not need to be adjusted as the machine does all the hard work and changes the pressure to meet your requirements.
You should be able to view your sleep report on the machine display screen menu and this will show you your mask fit, and your AHI (sleep apnoea events per hour). The target AHI with a CPAP machine is an AHI or 5 or under.
It does take a little while to adjust to using your machine and mask, so I would give it a good go for at least 10-14 nights and then looks at your data to see what your AHI score is.
Please let me know how you get on.
Kelly
