  • Dry mouth

Hi. I recently received my airsense 10 CPAP machine and I am getting quite severe dry mouth from the full face mask that wakes me up every other hour. I was wondering if anyone has any tips? My machine didn't come with a water tank/humidifier or a heated tube as the hospital says I shouldn't need it?

    Good Morning,

    Thank you for your post.

If you find yourself waking up with a dry mouth, nose or throat, then a humidifier should instantly solve that problem. A humidifier adds warmth and moisture to the air provided by your CPAP machine, which will moisturise your mouth, nose and throat throughout the night. Similarly, if you find the air from your CPAP to be cold and uncomfortable, a humidifier should make your therapy more comfortable.

You would need the HumidAir Humidifier Water Chamber for AirSense 10 - https://www.intushealthcare.com/prod...r-airsense-10/

I would suggest asking the NHS to see if they would provide one for you. If not then we would suggest you purchase one.

Thank you for the response. Can I purchase the humidifier without the heated tube? I just have a standard tube, or would I have to buy the heated tube as well?

        Good Afternoon

        Thank you for your email.

I would suggest if you purchase the humidifier, that you try it with a standard tube first. Then if you feel you need to change to heated tube, which for the airsense10 is the Resmed AirSense 10 ClimateLine Air Heated Tube - https://www.intushealthcare.com/prod...r-heated-tube/

Can I ask also, on my machine, I don't have an option anywhere for humidifier setting or anything like that. Once I receive the water tank and place it inside the machine with the water, will the option to alter humidity appear of its own accord or will I have to take it somewhere to be altered?

            Good Afternoon

            Thank you for your post.

The airsense10 machine should display the humidifier and heated tube sections in the menu on the display screen once a humidifier is attached. This will be in the "my options" menu on the machine. You can set your preferences for humidification once you have a humidifier connected.

Hi. So just a follow up. I purchased the humidifier and used it last night. Started on 4, woke up an hour later with dry mouth. Moved up to 5, same thing. Eventually moved up to 7 and STILL had really bad dry mouth but also a load of water in my tubing. According to my machine and sleep report I have/had a really good seal on my mask so there's no leakage of air issue, so I'm really at a loss now as to what I can try? Or why it's happening, even after I've integrated the humidifier. I'm not taking any medication or anything like that, that could cause it but I am a mouth breather. I just automatically assumed that mouth breather or not, the humidifier would keep things moist.

                Good Morning

Thank you for your post. The humidifier will warm and moisten the air to reduce a dry mouth. The settings do take a little bit of playing around with to get right.

If you have condensation in your tube, then you may need to use a heated tube as the warm air from the humidifier hits the cold tube and causes condensation. The heated tube will keep the warm air from the humidifier warm so it reaches your mask.

Bizzel I sometimes still struggle in spite of the humidifier, but it tends to follow a very salty meal like a take away or a few alcoholic drinks. Trying to drink plenty of water before going to bed, but not having so much it wakes me up all night is the balance I am finding right now.
My main message is don’t give up, overall the humidifier makes a massive positive difference to dryness
