The smallest by far is the Zzz-PAP. It weighs and measures next to nothing. The M Series Respironics aren't far off but have an external little power adaptor. The Everest 2 has a very small footprint but rises up a bit. Not sure how the ResMed S8 series compare. They look bulkier.
The quietest one is debatable. I've heard good things about the new DeVilbiss Sleepcube, which I've heard will be available here soon (called IntelliPAP in the US for some reason - also see cpap.com).
One of the smallest (and lightest) i have seen is the Goodknight 420 but i cannot attest to the noise as I have not used it, but a fraction smaller than the Resmed S8.

Speaking of that DeVilbiss SleepCube I mentioned above, it's now available in the UK too (at EU-PAP.co.uk - one of the banner advertisers here). They list it as sub 29 decibels but refer to a test which resulted in 26 decibels. Most machines I've read about are listed as 30 or 31 decibels.
My Fisher & Paykel 604 seems VERY quiet to me, and the wife but i can`t elaborate as being a newbie i have nothing to compare it with. Then again, i don`t want another machine so maybe it is a good bit of kit.
I use a Resmed S8 Autoset Spirit II with Resmed Mirage Swift nasal pillows and can confirm it is extremely quiet. At times one wonders if it is working.
Is the noise you are hearing coming from the machine rather than the mask? I have tried a number of masks since diagnosis 7 weeks ago and found several rather noisey - some were like sleeping with a boiling kettle or a howling gale.
