  • Ooops, I swallowed an egg.

    Greetings fellow Darth Vaders,
I have been on CPAP for nearly two years with no problems except that in the last few months I have begun to feel as though I have swallowed a whole egg. What it feels like is that there is some kind of un-swallowable air bubble in my throat. It causes no pain and there is no other symptom but for the feelings of constriction round my adams apple. Has anyone else out there experienced this (and perhaps solved this irritating symptom with a humidifier?) or am I on my own with this one?

Not heard of that one before!

Having never been offered a humidifier (nor finding the need to ask for one) I can't comment on whether that would help or not. The only feeling similar to what you describe was, for me, about six months in to treatment when I began to feel like my lungs had been blown up with a bicycle pump.....

I can't be sure as to whether this was down to the CPAP or the onset of pleurisy (which I get occaisionally).

So, after all that waffling, not really much to offer in the way of advice, but i'm sure there must be someone here who can help.

Have you looked through the blog? there are many articles there that may help....

same here, never experienced anything like that.

I don't want to alrm you, that's probably nothing, but I would seek medical advice. A quick visit to the GP might help explain what you feel.

Have you tried turning down your CPAP just a notch or two ?? I have to adjust mine once in a while - as i get pain in my lungs - so it may be worth ago.

As to humidfiers - i've just got one (Didn't think i needed one) - and yes it's helping - skin doesn't dry as much, and my throat doesn't dry out - Could it be that ?? Does slurping a drink help ? if do i'd guess a humidifier would.

I get the "Hamster cheeks" syndrome, not had a problem with swallowing one and getting it stuck in my throat. I would just ring your clinic and double check with them.

Thanks folks. I did go to my GP after several exhaustive and ultimately fruitless conversations with the clinic and I have been told that my throat is very dry. Makes sense. Going to try to get a humidifier and see what's what. Thanks again for the feedback.

              Feels Like an EGG

Hi--haven't heard anything about that on the forum--but as a retired Nurse's Aide-- I can say I have heard of that as being a sign of Acid Reflux. Sometimes a gas or air bubble gets stuck on the way to the stomach--and makes swallowing difficult and is NOT relieved by drinking. (Although that sometimes helps a little) If you have any stomach trouble--gas-- bloating-- or burning in the throat. stomach,or chest area you need to check out some anti-acids. You might want to talk to your Dr about that. Hope this helps. Berneta

I wouldn't describe it as exactly the same but I do get a similar problem every year without fail when oilseed rape comes into flower. We try keeping the windows shut but it only reduces the effect a little. That period is a few weeks away but I had a minor repeat a few weeks back when I bought some hyacinths in a planter for my mother and she didn't want them so they came home with me. They are now in the garden.

So have you some new plants inside your home, have you changed a spray cleaner or deodorant, washed the sheets in a different powder? Could be any or none of these things.

Silly question, but it's not something like indigestion is it? The machines have been giving me quite a few problems with that and whenever I eat it always feels like I have some food stuck.
