  • New User - CPAP Device

    Hello there,

I am a new patient of the CPAP Therapy, as it has only been 1-Week (out of 2 Weeks) in using the CPAP machine/Mask for the trial basis. The only thing I've found is that I am more tired than ever but I do not wake-up as many times during the night compared to what i did before.

I know it's way too early in positive results as I've had sleeping issues for 10-years plus.

    Just wanted to ask a few questions;

Can the Mask (medium size) cause pressure sores/brusing as the bridge of my nose is very sore and slightly inflammed?

When i take this device back to the Hospital, will they give me another CPAP device with a correct pressure designated for me or will it be the same device?

Hi and welcome to the forum!

It's all about perseverance with CPAP. You'll think that you'll never get used to it, but you will in time.

It's a common problem with the mask rubbing the bridge of your nose, unfortunately. Tell the nurse about it when you go back to the sleep clinic, and she might be able to adjust it for you, or give you a different mask. In the meantime, do what I used to do, and put a piece of elastoplast on the sore area every night to protect it.

The nurse should read the data from the past two weeks, to see what's been going on for you while you've been sleeping, and will change the settings accordingly, on the CPAP you already have. But on saying that, different clinics have different methods, so it's really difficult to say for sure.

It will help us if you give us details of which CPAP machine you have, and which mask you have.
    Kind regards, Tricia

      Hi there,
Thanks for your message. I am unsure of the exact CPAP unit, but I know it is a RESMED unit (Similar shape to the S9 Elite but in Black/Silver) and I have a Medium Mask also by RESMED (I think).

I know it's all about getting used to wearing the Mask, it is annoying at times but it's more comfortable than I ever imagined, but is still not sitting snugg yet as every night I keep adjusting the fit.

        Hi again,

OK, let us know how you get on at the clinic. Note down all the details you can while you're there. The more info you can give us, the better. I'm not 100% up on reading the data, but there are others here who are and will be able to advise you better on that side of things.

In the meantime, have a look around the forum. You might find some of the topics of interest.

        Take care.
        Kind regards, Tricia

          Hello,

Discomfort from using CPAP masks is a common complaint. Getting a secure fit and the correctly sized mask is very important but this can lead to problems with irritation and marks for some.

You may want to try Remzzzs mask liners. They are available in both nasal and full face sizes for all popular masks and are available to order in smaller sample packs to see how you get on.
