  • Fisher & Paykel CPAP programming help

    Hi,
    I have a Fisher & Paykel SLEEPSTYLE 200 CPAP MACHINE - HC254JHU
I need to reprogram it with new prescription setting.
Also, have had to stop using the humidifier as after a while it starts to make sort of gurgling noises in the hose which disturbs my family during the night.
    Can anyone help?

Don't know if I can't help with the programming, there is a site that has manuals for some machines but I can't remember where it is and I am not on the computer.

As for the water gurgling in the tube, either the room is to cold or the humidifier is turned up to high, or a combination of both.
Started with a low setting on the humidifier and turn it up a little every night until condinsation (rainout) starts again. You can get covers and heated hoses to help with this as well.

      Gurgling

The gurgling is usually caused by water that has condensed in the hose and collected in a dip; however it can also be caused by overfilling the humidifier.

If the former then try to avoid having low points in the hose; however this can lead to the occasional involuntary face wash! The best solution is a heated hose which can prevent the condensation from happening.

Thanks S2S & Grumpy for your replies. I have no idea how to adjust the humidifier - I don't have a manual for my machine. As I am retired & on a fixed income & can't really afford this stuff, I had to get this one used. I will look online for a hose heater or heated hose & see if I can find one I can afford, meanwhile, if I can find out how to program it to the setting from my doctor, that would help as well. T

You should get the basic user maual online.
I am on a phone at the moment so I can't look for you, bit if you Google it or look on manufacturers website you should get the manual that you should have got with it.
It is all basic stuff, but without the user manual you will not know how to adjust it.

            Hi Roddy,

I think this is the Manual you need http://www.somnitech.com/_PDF/SleepS...ing_Manual.pdf .

Have you mentioned your struggle with affording your CPAP to your GP? He/she might have some ideas. Or contact your Sleep Clinic to see what they say.

            Good luck.

I had replyed elsewhere, yes, I think that is the manual. 200 series.
If you have been diagnosed by NHS they may set up the machine for you. Give them a phone and ask.

Thanks for the link to the manual.

Actually I am on an extended visit from Canada and got my new prescription just before I left without time to have it applied. I won't be home till sometime in the New Year, but my health is reminding me every day that I need to reprogram my machine now.

I contacted Fisher Paykel who were of no help. Spouting concerns over patient safety. To me, that is a load of rubbish. I know people who have home Oxygen supplies and home Dialysis who are able to adjust their machines. Lets be serious here, this is basically just a fancy fan that needs to be basically turned up. Fisher Paykel says they are concerned for patient safety, my concern is the damage this is doing to my health, not being at the right setting.
If I ever get another machine, I assure you, it will not be a Fisher Paykel.

Yes, you are right, it is just a controled fan with a filter at one end and a connection for a hose at the other.
But they cover themselves these days.
They have to with all these law firms looking for work.

Diabetic patients give themselves injections, other patients give themselves powerful drugs every day which if taken wrong can be dangerous or fatal. There are many examples which far outweigh adjusting the speed of a fan. I am sorry, but I think this is absolutely rediculous! They are more likely making it so you have to go to the dealer of the machine so they can make more money from you. This is just like cars nowadays that are more & more getting to the point where the average mechanic just can't work on them due to all the electronics forcing car owners to take the car back to the dealership.
I am just trying to live so I can watch my young kids grow up. I don't have any medical coverage here & can't afford to pay someone to just "turn up the fan".
                    It certainly is very frustrating!

I understand your frustration and I do agree about cars.
In my view experienced users could easily adjust their machines.
I often wish I could shut off the Expiry Relief on my machine, I could if I really put my mind to it, but I would forget to put it back on before visiting the Sleep Clinic. They insist I have it turned on. I was ten years without it, so why do I need it all of a sudden? They told me how to adjust it, but even when I asked they still left it on!
                      Such is life.
Could you not find out where your nearest NHS Sleep Clinic is and ask them to do for you?
I remember being in a Sleep Clinic when a Canadian came in with a problem and they sent him to see the Sleep Tech. I don't think there was much wrong with it, but I didn't know the problem, but I run into him going out of the hospital and his machine had been fixed for him. Only took five minutes he told us and he was not charged anything. He didn't know what was wrong with his machine, just said it wasn't running right, but that they had fixed it.
Worth a try, though maybe you should have taken out medical insurance.

This site http://www.apneaboard.com/forums/index.php has manuals for most machines.
