  • Noise Levels !

Hi, another (possibly daft) newbie question....

.... I know most CPAP machine's are relatively quiet but when I wake in the morning I have a faint ringing in my ears. It's like I'd been listening to loud music a few hours earlier if you get my drift.

If I'm having a lie in, I wake around 7:00 and take my mask off and doze for a while. The difference without the machine running is quite marked - soooo quiet.

It doesn't keep me awake but I'm just curious if this is typical.

    Thanks in advance.

    Neil

Your nose and mouth are connected to your ears by the Eustachian Tubes which allows the pressures on the outside and inside of your ear drums to be equal. CPAP therapy of course raises the pressure on the inside and so affects the ear; you could think of it being like going up a mountain or up in a plane, before your ears "pop" and you can hear again. This all dulls teh hearing and stimulates the ears constantly.

Just like when you have been listening to loud music, or been on a plane journey and other things like that, your ears can take a little bit of time to get back to normal when you take the mask off.
