  • Newbee with new S9 Autoset

    Hi,

I have introduced myself in the intro section but I thought I would share my first experience on apap.

So last night I set my S9 Autoset up plugged it all in and just sat with my mask(quattro fx) on for a while in front of tv just to get used to the feeling.

The S9 had been set wide open at moment so min of 4 max 20 with a ramp of30 mins

I hooked up the mask when I wanted to settle down and tried to get to sleep.

Apparently I succeeded as I woke up at 3 and decided to use toilet and then settle back down as I was determined to continue using mask.

Next I awoke at 7 just before the alarm(never done that before!) as I felt water on my chin. I then had to remove the mask as I was aware of the increased pressure and it was quite hard to breath in time with the pressure rising and falling

I checked the display only to see the big green smiley face saying used for 8.5 hrs with AHI 1.44 and 0.04 leaks and my 95% pressure was 11.12

All in all not a bad first night I am well pleased with how the night went however I do know I wasn't sleeping that heavy and still feel fuzzy headed today but I suppose that will come with time.

Oh and if anyone is still listening, Is it OK to was the heated hose in soapy water every week?

    Thats all for now.....

    Welcome to the forum.

It is likely to take a good few nights for you to get used to the machine and start to feel the benefit, but it sounds like you have made a great start.

The water you felt was probably a bit of "rainout" - the humidified air condensing in the tube or mask. just turn down the humidification a little bit and it should stop. It is always a balancing act between getting enough humidification and avoiding rainout.

soapy water is fine for the mask and hose, just make sure you rinse it well and let it dry

Hi Flash, welcome to hoseheads unanimous. Glad your first night with the pet beast was a good one, it is a great therapy once you get used to it. Washing tube and mask is a routine you get used to and soon it will be as normal as teeth cleaning (don't think any of us have a song for doing it to but its only a matter of time). I tend to use whatever gel products I have borrowed from hotels so my machine always feels as if it's on holiday.

Its always good to hear from new people on the forum as i believe there are a lot of visitors who come here for information when they have just been diagnosed and are a bit worried about the face hugging octopus beast and its associated elephant (and on rereading that doesn't sound too good, but I'll let it go) so keep letting us know how you get on. We ain't doctors but between us we have run across a lot of the problems that turn up, but new folks come up with new ideas too. All the best, Martin

Hi Flash, that is good for a first night.
Just turn down the temp a bit, you may have to play with it a bit to get it right.
