    Hi

Welcome to the world of hoseheads.

Basic advice is keep trying, don't expect miracles too quickly (although some people are lucky enough to get it right first time) and read through some of the many posts to be found on the forum.

Personally I had some immediate benefits, but it took about two years of trials before I got to my present successful setup. Your sleep clinic should help, but some are better than others, if you're not happy keep asking them, and also post any specific questions on the forum.

There is no overall answer, we're all different, and different equipment suits us all differently, it's worth the effort of keeping going.

Good use of CPAP will give you your life back. Better sleep means better day-times: better daytime should lead to a more active life and better overall health.

    Good luck, and keep posting

Hi Colin, welcome to the forum.
Alas there is no perfect formula for cpap but keep tweaking things until you get it working. Some of us are ducks to water and others are ducks to pancake and hoi sin sauce (that one isn't as much fun for the duck), it sometimes takes a few masks, changing pillows, hose lifts etc and there are nights that the mask attacks like an octopoid face hugger but the therapy is excellent and personally it has turned me into an overweight balding middle aged chap as opposed to the grumpy tired wreck of loudly snoring protoplasm that I was 2 1/2 years ago.

A lot of problems have been solved by people here, ranting helps, and a good sense of humour is a great asset.

      All the best.

            Hi and welcome.

Make sure you are not napping in the day, it is easier to sleep if you are really tired. Also some distraction may help, go to bed an hour early and put a film or an audiobook or some music on,.

I remember the first night was a battle of straps and hoses ith about 3 hrs sleep but it was 3 hrs of solid sleep. Now it's 7 hrs minimume every night!

Hi Colin, sorry it ain't working. Have you got back in touch with your clinic to see if pressure needs upped. Also are you getting leaks from the mask, if its a nasal mask is your mouth opening at night. Not sure what a mouth guard is or what its for. If you can give us more info we might be able to suggest stuff, or if you are a tech head and can get info out of your machine that might mean something to someone here (not me, I'm lucky to find the on/off switch). It's worth trying diff things to try to get it to work as it's a great therapy when it works.

Couple of things, don't over tighten the mask, just have it so that it stops leaks and no more. A mask that is to tight is sore and uncomfortable and you will get a lot of interrupted sleep. You may need to readjust it during the night, I used to have to do this at least once through the night (I appeared to shrink at night) but I still got more quality sleep than I did before.
You may be mouth breathing if you are snoring, or air may be coming back out the mouth if it is a nasal mask. You could try a chin strap, if you have not got one handy just use a bandage for a couple of nights to try it.
Your mouth may be dropping open when you are sleeping (if you are getting sleep) when you are snoring.
You may need a bit more pressure if none of the above applies.

It would help if we knew what type of mask you have?
