I have told non-hoseheads, including medical professionals, about how you fail to maintain concentration and memory with OSA. Moreover that the lack of consistency and self doubt that creeps in and takes a grip is a major problem and indeed a serious threat in respect of depression. Some of them react in obvious puzzlement, I am not so sure it is readily recognised that both lack of sleep night after night, and serious drops in oxygen level several times a night, leaves the OSA sufferer in a parallel universe.

I would describe the way I feel is that it is like being permanently drunk without the alcohol.

Some non hoseheads would probably laugh or make a joke about that - "cor I wish I could get drunk without paying for it" sort of thing - I don't think folk see how tough it can be.

I'm just happy it's working as well as it does and 5 hours of being attacked by my hose and having whooshes in my face are a vast improvement over 9 hours of crud rest and several naps a day. My thanks to whoever invented this adapted lawn blower/cold hairdryer as even on a bad day i'm soooooooooooo much better than I was.

Just googled the device (only took 2 years) , never realised it was only produced in the 80's. My thanks to Colin Sullivan, where ever he may be. (He seems to be credited as the inventor and Google doesn't lie) and a mate who described his symptoms after a hospital visit in such detail that i realised I was the same, (or to put it another way...my wife said "thats the way you bl**dy sound, you ******, if that fixes it , go get checked", I think it was meant affectionatly).

Had a phone call Tuesday to see if i still wanted a humidifier and offering me one which of course i jumped at. so yesterday they changed my machine over i now have a Resmed S9 escape, and a Humidifier, its fantastic! last night was with out of doubt the best night's sleep i have had with cpap. my mouth wasn't half as dry as before, the machine whilst not silent is pretty damn close by comparison to the s8 although that didnt make much noise either to be fair., the hose gets a little more twisted and tangled than my previous hose but thats not a real issue, im so pleased. its all finally clicking into place and working for me

The Nurse mentioned something about the SD card in the back of the machine being able to give data on leaks etc, I'm going to have a good look around as i know ive seen many of you guys mention this also, and its something id like to have a look at

Great news Lee, I'm really pleased for you. I have two little tips but now that I've got to the end of your story I don't think you need them! Anyway, if you get a sore nose again, try a little Vaseline on the sore patches. And if the noise bugs you, get a soft and squishy down pillow and put it over your head! Works for me - I can't sleep without a pillow on my head now. One of the good things about being a hosehead is that you can completely smother yourself with pillows, duvet etc without cutting off your air supply!

I personally do three things to reduce noise.
I use cotton wool in the ears as it is more comfortable I find than ear plugs - saw a DJ in the paper that had some moulded ear plugs made to his ears so may try and see how much that would cost.
I also use a hose cover.
And I find that position of the machine is all important so have rigged it so the air intake and hose outlet face away from my head position.

                  hose tangling

You could try a hose lift; I have one I take on hols with me. Folds up and fits into the machine 'briefcase'.

At home I have an old-fashioned style bedstead so the hose just goes over the top rail above my head. You could use the hose lift at home too or try fixing a permanent loop above your head.

+1 vote for the hose lift. I have one that travels with me and one set up at home. Didn't think it would make as much difference as it does!
