  • Any advice on altitude?

I have just booked a holiday of a lifetime and never gave cpap a thought until now.
We are going to Peru, Galapagos and Equador and at times will be at an altitude of over 4,000 metres. Does anyone know if a Resmed S8 escape can be adapted to work at that height? Or how to compensate for it?
One of the effects of altitude sickness is stopping breathing when you are asleep (just read that this morning) which means having aponeas and altitude sickness together is probably a no no.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

Don't know specifically about the S8 but I should imagine it has an altitude setting - I think they all do!

Look in the Patients' Menu and I expect you'll find a 1,2,3 and 4 setting. The Book of Words will tell you which one to use at 4,000ft. Watch for headaches - hm! I wonder if PAPing at altitude adjusted pressure does away with altitude headaches. Good hydration helps - but didn't eliminate mine.

Little story, just for you, Lorraine. Remember howI used to say very helpfully, when you were having sore problems, that I could not get a Quattro to make a sore on my nose, no way? Well - I've used a Quatro this last week (needed a Sunday afternoon zizz after a late Saturday night and the FX headgear wasn't dry). And guess what? I'd developed a small, sore lump on my nose where the cushion sits and today the surface broke - only minutely - but I can claim a sore on my nose from a Quattro! Back to the FX tonight!
