Reading the blurb for the Remstar:
"Every Philips Respironics mask has a number, and by putting that into the REMstar it can compensate the correct amount of pressure for the resistance that mask generates. This means you get the correct pressure that you need, whatever mask you are wearing."

Could you say please James how you work out the codes for other makes of mask such as the Sleepweaver?
Also can you read the SD card yourself on a pc?

The good news is that Philips Respironics do actually acknowledge that patients should be able to read their own data.

You basically look at the intentional leak rates of one mask, compare it with the closest Respironics mask, and simply pick that one.

So the SleepWeaver (see FAQ) for example, "leaks" (intentional leak, the exhalation port holes) at 25 LPM at a pressure of 10. You then find a Respironics mask which leaks at about the same rate. In this case, we've done the graft for you, in our FAQ it says:

The ComfortGel Nasal mask has virtually the same flow rates through its exhalation port as the SleepWeaver. Setting your machine to the ComfortGel gives you the closest match.

You can repeat the trick with any other mask. You simply have to find the PDFs with the specs that include the vent rate.

And yes, with EncoreViewer, you have the software you need to read the SD card. You can also use our CPAP data report service, which still is free if you got the machine from us.

The M Series were a proprietary credit card. The System One now is a bog standard SD card. No more fancy reader required, just an SD card reader you probably already have for your phone/camera etc.

So I was one day too late with the PM Bummer! Anyway, nice bit of kit, sure you'll like it. And you must be quite the hacker if you managed to extract both the software and clinician manual from the ResMed site!

Really how much difference does it make to use that feature ( the mask selection)?

Not a lot in absolute terms but some people do perceive a big difference.

If you are on fixed pressure CPAP, if you introduce a mask into the equation with a larger LPM leak rate, you may simply not get the ultimate pressure you need to take care of your apnoeas. In an APAP, I suspect the issue will be negligable.
