wondering how the water up the nose helps with ear though
Well they are connected; that's why you have Ear, Nose and Throat departments in hospitals. I suspect that a pressure build up in your sinuses can impact your hearing; as well as giving you headaches.
Sinupulse is fairly easy to use and not horrible. The worst that can happen is the odd trickle of salty water into your throat. You will soon get used to it. I would give up my CPAP first.

I think the emphasis was on warm water rather than just water. I can only go by my own experiences.
I agree about it looking scary to use; whilst I wouldn't describe it as pleasant, it isn't anywhere near as bad as it looks. Even if it doesn't sort out the ears, I find it helps me during hay-fever season and when I have a cold, both times that aren't fun with the CPAP. There are a few on here that recommend it.

Interesting...........wondering how the water up the nose helps with ear though. Seeing a doc for a second appointment on Fri so hopefully I will have more info then as to what, where, why and what next but I'll bring it up with him. Heck, might buy it for myself for a birthday prezzie, I've bought less usefull things just on the off chance they might work.......those nozzles look scary though.Originally posted by Fredxx View PostHorrible though it is, the catarrh issue is one I get...and have solved. I am always getting ear problems and a few yeas ago my ears were bunged up so I couldn't hear properly...but a check by the doctor showed them to be clear. I had badly reduced hearing for about 3 years.
Then I found the sinupulse! It took about 2 weeks of using it twice a day with water as warm as was comfortable, but it cleared the problem. That was a couple of years ago now, I sometimes start to get the "blocked ear" symptoms again, but a couple of cycles with the sinupulse sorts it.

Chuckles Grumpy, some nights its def the sealing, sometimes the wee bugger just won't behave.
Just been told that I have an ear issue, apparently either the lil bones in my ear have become sticky, the hairs somewhere inside my ear have got lazy or cattargh has gone the wrong way and stuck me up so noise by bone conduction is a problem. Sigh, 50 years old and another bit gives up the ghost. Funny, I hadn't realised how much my hearing had deteriorated until I was tested. Wonder which bit'll go next......wonder if I could get bets going.Last edited by martin; 7 February 2013, 19:13.

what noise?
The only time I get any significant noise is if I have a mask leak; otherwise the set-up is all but silent.
Perhaps there is a problem with your machine or the mask isn't sealing as well as you think it is?

Think I'll pass , i like my sleepweaver, not sure about the nasal pillow things. It was more to add a baffle for the noise.
Re flipping the tube round, I tried that but because I forgot to take the mask off the other end it was a total failure.

The passover ones really do very little. Most people who travel out of the UK go to a more humid climate where a passover humidifier offers the same humidity as the atmosphere there in the first place.
You could of course go with waterless humidification...
PS about your issue from a long time ago with the hose making more noise at the mask end, try flipping the hose around

Old thread but wondering if anyone has tried the passover humidifiers, looks like a flat plastic box with tubes in and out but don't see a uk supplier. Could be a handy travel add on.

I know this thread is from a while ago but thought i'd update. A humidifier chamber has whacked the noise level way down...I use it without the heater element to keep the weight down and tape the base onto the plastic as otherwise the base blows off (a very unusual and confusing experience).
I found some flat seperate chambers with a short tube on the internet but they didn't seem to be available in uk.

To repeat a note on another thread , i spotted a sleep apnoea machine on an american comedy show michael and molly ... is there a prize or should we start a sort of bird watching competition were we cross off different models as we spot them.
Here's my entry - CPAP spotted in the trailer for a new comedy called "Hall Pass":
Screengrab attached for good measure

I solved this problem a year ago, after the noise was desturbing my sleep due to the frequency of the air hissing. let me explain certain noises come in different levels ie frequency, now my fan whirls round and makes a noise that doesnt bother me same with the tv or the radio, doesnt matter how loud I can still sleep all day long, now if my daughter is off school and she starts talking it will disturb my sleep, same with cats meeowing dogs barking, traffic, doesnt have to be loud, if I hear it I cant sleep. One day I stuck my ear plugs in and played some elivator music, I was out cold sinse then I have my head phones on when I sleep, works for me. Think I will play some learn to speak spanish in your sleep tapes next

Thanks for the thought sparty but the noise is at the mask end, what i would need to do is get a longer nose so the mask is further from my ears...though we would need to work on bone conduction, tricky.Originally posted by Sparticus View PostThe solution is quite simple and with the knowledge on here I cant quite believe that no one has said it, put the machine in the spare room and buy a longer hose

Yep, nice grey one, also has the advantage that i dont get lots of lines down my arm...Its odd, i can sleep with the radio on but the whoosh gets me, just glad it doesnt affect my main gal.Originally posted by Barely Awake View PostHave you tried using a cosy wrap around the hose to see if this dampens the sound as well as reducing condensation?
