ResMed, here I come!!

I have finally done it!! I have gone out and got my own APAP machine!!! Yey!! I went down to ResMed today and picked up my own S8 AutoSet Spirit II and Mirage Swift™ II Nasal Pillows System mask.

WOW!! the machine is TINY!! I think it may even be smaller than the Respironics M series machine! and the mask, well there is hardly any mask, its just 2 nasal pillow!! I cannot wait to try this machine tonight! Fanally a machine that can track my apnea's and adjust to what I need!

Plus the machine has a built in patient data menu, so I can see what pressure it gives me on an average and how many apnea's I am having a night!! Yey!!

The more people that can do this, the better understanding that us Cpap users have of whats out there, and gives an idea of what to chose!

Ok, so first night over, and I dont think I have slept so well in my life.

The machine was so easy to set up, Plug in the power, attach the tube and mask, and away it went, the machine was so quite!! I couldn't even hear it, wow!! The machine worked its way through the night as it should, and when I woke up it told me on the screen that I had used it for 7.5 hours that night and that my mask fit was very good, somehow it monitors the mask, maybe for leaks and reports back in the morning if there was any problems. It also informed me that over the night my average pressure was 17. I suppose thats a good thing to know, that way you can monitor your apneas?
Ohh and there was no pressing buttons to start and stop the machine, put the mask on, machine switches on. take the mask off and machine stops, nice!!

The mask itself, I thought I may have some trouble getting used to, Im used to a nasal mask, respironics Comfort Gel, and this one was just a little tube with 2 prongs that stick in your nose, so no nasty head gear marks and no mask marks, wow, now that itself was amazing in the morning!!

Anyway, I put the mask on and yeah I suppose I noticed it, it was new, so I would notice it, but I didn't wake once in the night and after about 5 minutes I didn't even realise I had a mask on.

Overall this machine is amazing!, small, powerful and very very user friendly! its given me more information about my OSA and how Im doing than my NHS sleep centre has since I have been with them (and I have only used this for 1 night so far)

Would I go back to respironics? hmm, not at this moment in time, this machine is amazing!! personally I think its miles ahead of the Remstar Plus M series. I only had that machine for 1 week, at the beging of the week I loved it, but hated it by the end, didnt seem to give me enough pressure, lets hope that I don;t end up feeling this way about this machine, but so far all good.

did the mask move if you turned on your side? do you sleep on your back? move around much? do you use a specially shaped pillow or standard pillows?

All of these points will help users decide if it is for them or not!

Ok, the above post I did was kinda thin on info.

The Mask, WOW!! Ok I sleep on my front, with my head popped up by about 3 pillows, nothing to do with my OSA just comfy The mask is great for this, as there is no mask, just a little tube that goes under your nose and 2 pillow which sit just inside your nose. The Air hose that goes from the mask to the CPAP machine only comes out on 1 side of the mask and is changable, so if you normally sleep on one side then you can fix it so there is no problem.The Air hose also comes from the mask on the side and has an attachment so you can connect it to the headgear which there isn't much of, just a strap to go over your top of your head and a band around the back, nothing accross face like normal masks. Having the tube attached to the headgear is great, as it mean I can place the tubing easily to the top of bed which means I no longer get strangled by the air hose.

To me, this is the best mask I have ever used, I dont even realise Im wearing it as I cannot feel it once its on, I have had to get used to not constantly checking im wearing it as I can hardly feel it.

I move around loads in bed, and would get LOADS of leaks with my previous mask, this one NONE!! well, very very slight, but done I notice of the machine shows my mask leak as 0.22 which is good?

I think Im gonna have to work out how to get some pictures of it all on here as I cannot really describe it in words

exactly Joe.

As you can see there is nothing on one side of the face appart from the strap which means you can lay on the side with no obstructions. Its great!

It's a great mask for side sleepers indeed - I should add a picture to that blog post I did. I briefly mentioned it in the text but it deserves a visual clue about its design.

Great to hear you are getting on well with the Sprit 11, I am glad I am not the only one who finds it a great bit of kit. I switched from the earlier version of the Spirit to the version 2 and my AHI level dropped from between 5-6 to 2.5 - 3.

Its really quiet too....thank god says my wife

I use the Resmed Activa mask, as I cant get on with the pillow type.

The people and service from Resmed is great aways there if you need a bit of advice, and will bend over backwards to get parts out to you when needed.
