Just an update for everyone......
I've had my CPAP Resmed S8 Escape for just over 4 weeks now but have only managed to use it 4 times. I collected it the day before I went away on holiday, tried to use it on holiday but struggled with the positioning of sockets in the hotel room. An extension cable is definitely in my suitcase for next time!!!
Came back from holiday with some sort of chest infection and a throat virus. I still tried the machine though, but I've woken up in the middle of the night and almost ripped the mask off, its been that uncomfortable. It leaves a red mark across the bridge of my nose and also makes my teeth hurt in my lower jaw. I spoke to the hospital and they agreed to fit me for a new mask - I ended up with a medium size which felt a lot better.
The hospital said that quite a few people don't use their machine when they have a cold - this throat is so painful and the cold air gives me a sore throat anyway and I was dreading trying it. But, after yet another night of terrible sleep - I was up gong to the loo 6 times, it seemed like every 20 minutes I was awake - I decided I would try it and put up with the sore throat. I've found I'm getting a complex about sleeping. I'm obviously worrying about not sleeping, the apnea kicks in and I wake up. I have recurring, repeating dreams, and I seem to be dozing off and on all night - if I didn't know I had sleep apnea I would think I was an insomniac!
Anyway I tried the machine and my new mask. I slept solid until 3am - that has not happened for a long time! I took my mask off at 3, temporarily, put it back on at 4, and slept through until 8!!!!!!
The longest nights sleep I've had in years! And, guess what, my sore throat had almost disappeared as well!!
It was wonderful. The mask did not hurt at all, it didn't seem to leak either. I awoke feeling almost refreshed and I can't wait for tonight.
I'm writing this at 11:30 at night -I've been awake all day, no dozing, or feeling like I must have a nap - most unusual for me.
I'm going to bed now. I'm looking forward to it!
Good night!
