  • Woah - Too much energy :-)

Just thought i'd post this - as it's a slightly odd "Side effect" from cpap...

Basically as some of you will know - My OSA is bad and to be honest i've been i'll for years (but with no treatment).

Now slowly i'm getting used to the CPAP and the mask fits (most of the time). I'm slowly reducing medications that i've been prescribed over the years - Now I have good nights and bad ones (as i sure we all do).

But when it all clicks (not too many meds, a good night and no morning backache) ! then woah ! I can barely cope with the energy - it's like a major sugar rush (or something stronger). I'm almost hyper (like to much sunset yellow colouring), with an aderaline rush - in fact it's on the egde of unplesent!

I'm sure it's going settle down a bit - but CPAP needs a health warning You may feel sooo much better - you may only just be able to cope !

Haha good stuff. Puffin called it the 'lamb in spring' effect. Glad you experience it too. So many people all but forgot how feeling great actually feels. Or feeling alive even.

London Marathon for you next summer? Still in time for the Olympics 2012?

You can now go worry about whether CPAP works in space

I felt that way after my overnighter at oxford to try it out (CPAP) for the first time. Never woke up feeling so good.

Hey Chelsea, how about a quick update for the newly registered? Are you still "feelin' it"?
        If you can read this...
...at least you seem to be getting enough sleep to stay awake and alert!

Well the initial rush has worn off - and to be honest thats no bad thing - as it was almost more than i could cope with.

I do have more energy but its a bit more level. My other half says she has really noticed and sometimes struggles to keep up. I'm a bit disappointed as i haven't suddenly become superman and to be honest shouldn't have expected to - but that sudden rush can make you wonder what will happen.

All that said - I no longer feel sleepy during the day, driving is rarely an issue anymore and i don't want bed at 7.30pm I can stay awake till midnight with no major issues. Additionally if i have a bad night sleep I can cope with just a few hours.

To sum up i'd say Initially Big Rush, Then a bit of a swing the otherway (maybe a reaction to adrenaline ?), and now it's levelled out - with a general upwards trend. (It has to be said my situation is much more complicated than just SA - which requires Zoton and Dihydrocodine - so my energy levels are not indicative) - also i have 100% compliance (which is thanks to this forums tips and help).

In all is the intial problem of cpap worth it, would i say stick with it, and would i go through all the stress of the first nights again ? OH YES !

Well done mate, I too had that rush of energy that settled back to a more manageable level.

In my case, now that most of the major symptoms have gone, some minor underlaying problems have popped up. Like low iron levels. I've now got to have camera's "up and down" which I'm not looking forward to!

eek... sounds a bit nasty Puff..

I never got the big rush at all. I'm definately not so tired nor am I as likely to fall asleep driving or waiting in a queue.. but all the same I don't really feel any more refreshed. I quite like the feel of the airflow, which sounds weird, but other than that its just another medical chore I have each night along with 2 injections and 6 tablets...

Sleeping patterns are clearly as important to feeling fresh, and that is something I have to work on. I'm convinced I need to have regular sleeping hours at regular times to really feel refreshed of a morning!

Just back to work, after the flu, and since starting CPAP. The difference is amazing! I'm not grumpy, I'm joining in with things/meetings, NOT falling asleep all the time, awake for the whole bus journey (that's sad, I know).
But honestly, the difference between now and three weeks ago has been commented on by a number of people - so even if you don't feel like an energetic spring lamb, you will be reaping the benefits.
Only problem is that the place is still depressing, but that's another story.

When the people around you can see the differance, thats the second rush/feel good factor. Glad its working mate.
