  • Humidifiers

Something that was discussed at SATAday was the use of distilled water for humidifiers, now personally I don't use one, but a lot of people were asking where to get distilled water cheaply, and one very experienced user replied just get a water filter and use the filtered tap water, his humidifier doesn't scale up and seems to suffer no ill effects at a margin of the cost of the distilled stuff.

Google "Distilled water suppliers", and you should be able to find a ready source in various sized containers. I remember a friend of mine, who did a lot of ironing of football strips, that she used it for her iron, and it came in 5 gallon drums.

Tap water suitability really depends on your areas (and the filter you use). Some areas are really bad, others you can do without a filter. Your local water supplier can give free analysis.

Forms of filtration vary a lot too, from Brita to Reverse Osmosis which can make medically pure water (perhaps a bit over the top for this purpose). Any form of filtering is better than nothing.

Pet shops with fish tend to stock cheap distilled/filtered water as it's often a requirement for a successful fish tanks. It's the same water as in the health food shop but at a surprisingly different price.
