I have been using deionised water.

Always presumed it was the same as distilled (ie impurities removed although by a different process)

I looked at the bottle today and it says not for drinking.
Is it dangerous for me to use - should I stop.

Cant seem to find distilled water anywhere...

      Least resistance

      Hi ukjoel

De-ionised is not good for humans, mammals generally and plants generally, to drink. Great for car batteries and washing machines and showering.
You don't need distilled water in your humidifier - all you need is biologically clean water. Soft water saves a lot of humidifier cleaning.

Lots of folk use distilled water, some even get it from the NHS on prescription.

In UK, standard tap water passed through a Brita filter (or similar) will give you clean, soft water ideal for use in your humidifier.

        Dirty Water

HI TF--here in America we are certainly not a shining jewel. LOL. Probably no better than any civilized country. We have Park Lakes closed to swimming right now due to ecoli in the water. Many of our Sewage plants and Factories are often built along our rivers, and right now we are having a lot of flooding. So most people don't even swim in the river. Sometimes the fishing in certain areas of the Mississippi are closed to fishermen, because they are contaminated. I live about 10 miles from the MIssissippi.
I also have a deep well here at home, that I can't drink from . Once long ago when my little country cottage was built, the water was probably safe---but not now. I live in the forested middle of a huge valley surrounded by mild rolling hills, Prime Deer Hunting Country. The hills and valley floor are planted every year with corn or soybeans, and the fields are fertilized and treated with chemicals to get rid af bugs and weeds. When it rains, (a lot lately) the valley floor gets the run off from the fields, and our well water is not drinkable. Also the tap water we have from the aquifer usually has enough chlorine in it to gag you, if you get it near your nose. It is run through miles of underground pipe to get to us, We tried a Water Purifier once, and got tired of buying filters that clogged up so fast, Cheaper for us to buy water bottled. But you are probably right--Purified Tap Water would probably work fine as long as filters were changed as often as needed. Apparently water in the UK is clean enough that the government doesn't think you need distilled water. Countries are all different. Americans think 'dirty water" is found in countries without Water Factories, where people have to drink from muddy puddles, or lakes and rivers where animals wade. Since CPAP use is so wide spread--I am very glad we have this forum where we can discuss things like water quality problems, and try to help each other whatever way we can! I had no idea that there was a special water that should be used in batteries. I sure hope no one puts that in a humidifier. Sounds just awful to me! I had a good night last night--woke once but went right back to sleep. The Doves calling outside my window woke me at 7 AM--but I managed 8 hours of sleep and feel rested. I am going to make a cup of Tea and be glad I am lucky enough to have decent water. Best Wishes to everyone, Berneta

          The solution is nigh!

          Hi All

Who knows what they will cost or when they will be commercially available, but .......

A bottle that uses ultraviolet light to sterilise drinking water wins the Dyson Award for answers to everyday problems.
