  • Relocating - Will I Lose My CPAP Machine?

I'm likely to be relocated by my company from Manchester to London. I just got my CPAP machine days ago and its made a huge difference in my life. I feel rested, my memory has improved and I can think clearer.

Does anyone know if I will have to return my CPAP machine and start all over again once I have settled in London?

When I moved I kept my machine and stayed as a patient in my old clinic - I hardly every have to go there so it isn't a problem. Patients have the right to choose these days!

      Have you ever .....

      Hi bedouin

Your name suggests a things but not staying in one place nor returning things, if the movies are to be believed!

Seriously, have you ever tried returning anything to the NHS. I've found it to be more difficult than obtaining kit from them in the first place! The stuff in my attic tells me you need not worry about anyone even asking you to return your CPAP.

Go to London and sign up with Bromley!

Or Brompton! Or Guy St. Thomas. They all rock.

Perhaps enquire with the new clinic first, before discussing returning the machine with the old clinic. If you want to mention it at all.

          Good luck Bedouin
in your new employment in the Big Smoke. Friendly enquiries with your current provider will no doubt bear fruit. Even if they dont want you to take the CPAP down with you (which would be pretty unusual) they would help with the process of transferring you to another service.

          All the best

PS - who is your service provider in the north west?

            Current Clinic

Current Clinic is at North Manchester Hospital. As far as my experience with access to specialist services via the NHS (this isn't my only chronic condition), its all been reasonable quick and efficient. The machine is not the current M series but they did give me both nasal pillow and full face mask, as I often get blocked sinuses.

The technician was helpful and gave me all the information on the use of the machine that I could ask for.

I'm going to miss Manchester if I have to leave.
