  • Fallen off the wagon

Gave up using BIPAP machine a couple of weeks ago. Not sure what went wrong but the whole experience has gone kaput for me. Nasal pillows mask is no longer comfortable and seems to leak constantly. Machine noise was too much for my wife and she started sleeping in another room. So I am taking a break and trying to decide what my next step will be.

    How long?

    Hi steveh

Welcome back ! but I'm sad you have hit such a low!

Two weeks off the machine and she's not sleeping in the other room because you have reverted to being a grumpy old git through lack of sleep? You're doing well, chum!

Is the way forward more about dealing with the problems you've experienced, rather than chucking the whole thing? There are a couple of current threads about people building 'sound proof' boxes. A new, different type of mask.

Keep in there - you know it makes sense! The alternative of being un-treated is horrendous - and you know that, too!

    Good luck!

      Never, ever give up

      Hi Steveh,

The purpose of your BiPap is to make your waking hours more enjoyable, and increase your vitality. By not using it you are denying yourself a whole lot of benefits. It may be hard to make the adjustment, but if that is what it takes to help your health and recovery, then that is what you have to do.

To counteract the noise of the machine, try playing quietly soothing music on your CD player. You can set it up with a lengthy play-list so it plays all night through. Offer to play your loved one's favourite music, and she might surprise you!

But the important thing is to stick with it and persevere with the nightly ritual.

      Regards

      Richard

Tried to find threads on sound proofing via search but didn't get any results. TF, please direct me to them. Thanks!

          Vanished!

Sorry, Steve - I just can't find them!

I know I posted on at least one of the threads - about ventialtion holes, bur 'search' turns up nothing on that, either.

Aha! got it with my sister wrapping in blankets! CPAP Forums > CPAP Therapy > CPAP Machines : Is my Remstar m CPAP or BIPAP ?

Tincatinca is the guy but he has not reported on the outcome as yet.n You can always PM him for an update, Steve.

Hi guys- I'm one of the people who has made a sound-proof box

I'll re-post here for convenience. Mine works a treat. Hope it helps.

Hi there - Mine was the post saying about the polystyrene lined box
            ________________________________________
I made it because the noise of the machine was disturbing my wife. What I did was this:
            1. Find a suitable sized shoe box with space to spare all ways around the machine. Perhaps a visit to a shoe shop with some measurements might be productive. Hopefully, this bit is free!

            2. Buy a set of polystyrene ceiling tiles

            3. Using a non-solvent glue (important, as I found, because the solvent melts the polystyrene), cut the tiles to fit and line the inside of the box, butting the tiles up against each other as tight as you can.

            4. Now sit the machine in the box, and measure out and cut the tiles you need to pad the lid. You have to leave space around the sides for it to 'bed down' when it closes against the other tiles lining the sides of the box.

            5. Make a mark where the intake port is on the machine. Cut a hole through the back of the box to allow for this. I made mine about 1.5 inches square.

            6. This bit depends on the machine. I had to cut into the top of the box to allow for the hose port to stick through the lid at the top. I then went further and did a cutout for the LED panel, so now I can get to the switches and readouts without having to open the box.

If I can, I'll take pic and post it here. It's not pretty, but it works a treat. Even though I have to put a shoe on the top to keep the lid down! Very technical!

Blue Peter - eat your heart out. :-)
