hi guys and girls,
After speaking to my sleep clinic and having confirmation from them that they have sent info back to dvla i phoned the medical branch to be told my case was in a queue with the board and will be dealt with whenever!!!!

As I need my hgv licences for work it is causing me no end of issues and it could lose me my job and liveliehood but I doubt if dvla are worried about that.

I know they have a job to do but pleeeease surely they can see the issues that the delays are causing

I speak as a magistrate. If you are using your cpap machine as prescibed by your sleep consultant, you will be fine. I was told that as long as you are using your machine you are covered. As a magistrate, I believe, no court in the country would ban you and you would have to have committed a serios motoring offence to be in court.

That serious offence might be 'no insurance'. They are your first stop. Tell them you are using a cpap machine and that your consultant has passed you to drive.

Get back to the DVLA or go to your local office and tell them you are a HGV driver and could lose your job!

Being insured is the issue for you my friend, if your insurer accepts your consultant's advice then go for it. The DVLA 'will' say OK s don't worry on that score!

getting very fed up now

Hi guys still no closer to a decision, i ring dvla on a regular basis and all i get is that it is in the hands of the medical advisors.

I hasve even asked to be passed on to someone higher up the chain to see what they have to say, but there is no one available

All i want are me licences back is that too much to ask ????

My insurance companies are all cool with my condition and the declaration that I suffer from Hose Head Itus, so why the DVLA cant get it i will never know.

Hi joe,
still steaming just had a convo with dvla again, they have only just passed my case notes up to their doctors for referral and it could take up to six weeks for a decision there is a back log blah blah so sorry for the delay blah blah. I am so so fed up with all this as it is now getting to the point where my job is on the line and if it is not sorted soon i could lose so much .
The next step is to consult my solicitor to write to them and see what he can do to speed things along.

Any thoughts????

Hi Drew!
This is rediculous! Can I ask if you are driving. I was told when I was offered my CPAP machine by the sleep clinic that I could drive because the consultant thro prescribing the CPAP was stating I was fit to drive. Have you a note from your sleep team stating you could drive and only if the DVLA say you cannot drive do you stop. If so then drive!
I would write to your MP. Look up on the Internet and email he/she and make sure you enter your address so they can confirm you live in their constituency! Always get the name of the person at the DVLA who you speak to. Your MP will shift them! Government bodies are scared stiff of politiicans. Also get your councillor. One other thing is to get in touch with C.A.B.
Also contact D.I.A.L. (Disabled Information & Advice Line). Our breathing problem is a disability and there is no shame in that. In other words get as many advocates on board as is possible!

Hi again joe,

I am driving my car as dvla have not said anything regarding my car licence it is my class 1 hgv and pcv licence they have restricted, and that is what is causing me the grief.
I know several drivers who have osa and are still driving heavy goods, what i can't understand is how it takes so long considering the paperwork went off in may of this year
