My interpretation is "You are receiving treatment, complying with the treatment, responding to the treatment and being able to pass the non-sleepy/drowsiness during the day test." I can't remember the exact name for it, but you have to score below '8'. Remember this number!!! Google 'Epworth Sleep Test' and you will see the test at www.circlecity.co.uk

Most sleep clinics call you compliant if you use it consistently 4 hours a night and indeed demonstrate an improved Epworth Sleepiness Scale score. There may be an element of boosting success figures involved, by adopting a loose definition of compliance. Based on 4 hours a night, you quickly get 99% compliance. Look at AHI < 5 and this drops to 70-ish I believe. It's about clever accounting

Usually done as a percentage. Usage is number of nights used eg 10/10 would be 100%. Compliance is number of nights when usage was over 4 hours eg if this was only on 5/10 nights would be 50%. Ideally it should be at least 70%.

Could someone clarify what detailed above.

I read it as if I return to the clinic and fill in all the boxes that say I am not tired, they will say its a success and say I am ok to drive.

Surely thats like asking a drink driver to tick 5 boxes detailing whether they drink and drive.

How do they check the person is beign 100% honest with them.

Is the machine analysed?
Do they carry out further overnight investigations?

Apart from you, who can testify that you are not tired during the day? They have no choice but to trust you - mind, in the small print, you'll find that you give te DVLA the right to place a spy camra in your bedroom. They switch on remotely anytime they like and check up on you!

They (sleep clinic doctors) actually read the data from your spap machine and use this to inform the dvla.
