  • Therapy Pressure?

Hello im another newbie to this site but i have been using my machine for about six months with very little guidance from the NHS. I am using a REMstar auto and i feel ok with it but as i am a HGV driver i am worried that things are not working right.
I know that i am using it every night and i always use it for more than 4hours a night i dont have access to any other screens except the Therapy Pressure screen which is constant at 15.5 approx can someone please explain what this is and if this is good or bad. If this question has been asked before or is bit daft i apologise in advance

    It just is

    Hi einsteinsdad

15.5 is the pressure at which your machine works - 15.5 cm H2O. Neither good nor bad, just the pressure setting.

You say you have a REMstar auto so I'd expect the therapy pressure to vary according to your need unless it is set to CPAP - constant pressure.

The test is - do you feel sleepy during the daytime? If you do, you should hot-foot back to your clinic and talk to them. If not, it's working fine.

If you actually have an APAP, there are all sorts of statistics in the Clinicians' Menu that the NHS can access.

Thanks for that you have put my mind at rest as i started to panic a bit not knowing wether i was doing it right. i must admit ever since i started using it i have felt a lot better not tired and not argueing with the wife as much.
      Cheers Einsteinsdad

As a HGV driver you should have an annual medical review as well as with your CPAP team to check all is well, but symptoms or indeed lack thereof is the most positive sign that you are doing well. You should really be seen by the team before you go back to driving, I take it as you have been on CPAP for 6 months you have had at least one review in this time where your machine has been downloaded to check you are using it and that it is doing what it should be.

It would be unusual for you to see 15.5 on an auto unless it is set to fixed pressure as you would normally only see pressures this high during sleep and not when you are awake enough to read it, which begs the question why are you on an auto machine and not taking full benefit of it (to be asked of your clinic). The only other info you can access from patient menu is your usage which can be obtained by pressing the arrow key on the top right.
