Just started and having problems

Well they told me I have sleep apnoea and have given me a CPAP.
This is all complicated by the fact I live in Japan
I think the machine is a Resmed Auto something
I have a nose mask
For the last three nights I have tried to get to sleep using it but find air keeps pushing out through my mouth and my ears keep popping
When I do get to the point of sleep as I am a mouth breather my mouth opens and the machine seems to make me wake up as it becomes hard to breath
The machine is set to auto
My thought is that I will ask them to give me a full face mask and let me set the pressure level ,increasing it gradually
Any thoughts?

I would go with the full-face mask to start. The machine will adjust its own pressure to suit your needs once you have a mask-seal

That makes sense tho I sort of feel a bit happier about building the pressure up to the required level myself. Anyway seeing the quack on Friday so have been working on the Japanese I need to explain it
Also in terms of using the machine abroad ie. the UK do I need a converter or just a standard UK kettle lead?

Happy Christmas in Japan!

As you have a Resmed auto - presumably 'M' Series? - with power pack separate from the APAP, it will take 110V and 220/240V quite happily - and transform the power to 12V for the machine.

All you need when you get here is a UK figure 8 power lead.

Full face mask, by the by - definately. Try limiting your top pressure - that's the troublesome one when the 'auto' function kicks in.

well that didn't go well

Just got back from the Japanese clinic and they said that they need to teach me how to use the machine and I need to do a new sleep test (180 quid a shot)
and took away the machine and told me to come back in February when I return here from the UK.
Very helpful
Maybe I should try talking to my doc in the UK?
How is it dealt with there, does anyyone know?

Depends which PCT you are under in UK as to how long it takes. At a guess, two months is way under the minimum required for the NHS to get its finger out - by a couple of months, at least!

The quick way is to go to your GP and get a prescription from him saying you need an APAP. With the Px in hand, you can buy your own rig from from Intus, who run this forum, or from anyone else.

I imported mine from the US and was wearing it on the second night after ordering. Maybe you could do an international shopping price check before committing - but I bet US is the cheapest. Just need to watch the input voltages of whatever you buy - if you buy.

An APAP is self-calibrating and expensive and a CPAP is not. I guess you need to confirm with your Japanese clinic that you do not need a BiPAP.
