  • NHS to pay for private treatment?!!

This just in. If they fail to meet their 18 weeks target, they intend the pay for your private treatment. How exactly that will work remains to be seen. If they follow through, and don't use dodgy 18-week measuring methods, it could be great news for hundreds, if not thousands of you.

    Wouldn't it be loverly!!?

Methinks that means eighteen weeks from GP referral to getting into treatment - for us, seeing a consultant who will onwardly refer us for a sleep study. How long to wait for the study? for the results? for the delivery of the CPAP?

I'll bet there will still be race with DVLA and that NHS (and us) will lose every time!

    Pessimist or realist?

Relistic pessimist, I like that. Possibly cynic even?

an emotion of jaded negativity, or a general distrust of the integrity or professed motives of other people. Cynicism can manifest itself by frustration, disillusionment and distrust in regard to organizations, authorities and other aspects of society, often due to previous bad experience. Cynics often view others as motivated solely by disguised self-interest.
Either way, most likely quite realistic, I agree. Would be a safe bet. One of those political moves that look greta on paper, may get a few votes, but means very little in practise.

          Nearly but not quite

Thanks for the appraisal, TWW. Erudite, even!

I sort of see myself as a cynic by your quoted definition, James - it's not so much that I "view others as motivated solely by disguised self-interest" as feeling pissed off at them for treating me as if I'm so stupid that I can't work out their ploy - it smacks of an attempt to deceive. Treat me as the intelligent man that I am, give it to me straight, and you'd never think of using words like 'cynic' about me. Other than that, 'cynic' well describes a part of me.

Politicians and expenses! How can one be other than cynical about their motivation???!!

            There You Go - Exactly!

            Tigers Fan

            Well said !!!

            Call a spade a spade - (not a shovel) - (not a dirt lifting device) - etc

What you see is what you get with you - I too despise those powers that be that insist on treating sensible individuals as idiots - a little respect and understanding goes a long way in my book. Straight talking and less of the infamous "political correctness!"

Lordy lordy I am sounding old (is there a slot on that programme for "Grumpy Old Men"?) I think they could take us both TF; together with my Uncle Dave!

            Cheers
