  • Auto titrating machine vs fixed pressure

Can anyone please describe how their switch from a fixed pressure CPAP to Auto-CPAP (APAP) went? I'm wondering whether it's time to upgrade as I sometimes feel the pressure may not be optimally adjusted to my needs. I don't know if it's just me but I tend to put on a bit of weight over the winter (winter blues?) and think this may affect my apnoeas. It would be nice to know the machine is on to it as and when needed.

Can any of you elaborate on the difference they felt when switching to an auto machine? Would you recommend it? Any drawbacks?
    If you can read this...
...at least you seem to be getting enough sleep to stay awake and alert!

Hi, I used to have a Auto titrating machine which was amazing, it would work out how much pressure I needed and would give what was required, and then when not as much pressure was required it would decrease, it was amazing!

Ok, now I currently have a fix pressure machine, the first one was on a rental scheme from REspronics, and now I have a fixed pressure from the NHS.

I personally do not like the fixed pressure machine, some mornings I wake refreshed and ready to start the day, and others Im waking and feeling like I have not slept at all. I have been using a fixed pressure now for 6 months and am despiratly trying to work out how to go back to a titrating machine as my local NHS will not supply one of these.

How will you be upgrading? will your local NHS give you oneż

I was told there was an 18month delay to get to see the sleep clinic in my area. So I nicely bulied my docktor to fill in the Resmed perscription form to allow me to use an APAP.

I have been using one for 3 years, but recently I had a car accident and had to spend a night without my APAP machine. The Fixed pressure machine the hospital gave me nearly drove me crazy and I was so bad the next day my wife drove 160 miles to go get my machine from home. Slept like a log lol.

APAP is great, and some of the new machines really resond fast to your needs, both up and down. If you can afford to buy one its well worth the expence.
