  • Heated hose

My heated hose arrived from down under just as the Australian batting was collapsing. I went to Maplins to get a power adapter - and tried it for the first time last night.

I must say there was an immediate difference. I got to sleep quickly and did not wake up for three hours - which hasn't happened for a while. There was some dryness of the mouth - though the humidifier was turned up to 8/10. Previously that would have caused condensation - I slept for a while without the mask - but put it on again for about another two hours. Best I have done for quite a while.

I am hopeful that this will continue to make a difference. Certainly there is no cold air blowing at you and it feels much more comfortable and natural to breathe....will report after a week of using it....

Great early result! Glad to hear you took the long-distance plunge and got this in, it's worked wonders for many. I'm very optimistic you'll get great use out of it.

      Heated Hose and Rainout??

I have noticed past few nights the all knowing "Gurgling" noise in my Aussie Heated hose..It is cold outside but not too bad and warm in the house..I still don't understand the room climate controls etc.. that will cause the rainout..What might be going on..Have I burned up my hose?? I have the humidifier at a setting of 3.Thanks!!

You were supposed to wait till summer!

        Hi sleepster

First check all the electrical connections are good - plugged in at the wall and the hose connector to the supply connector is all the way home. Switch on. With hose resting on mattress, put a pillow over a length of it. Sing Yankee Doodle three times. Slide a hand under the pillow and grasp the hose. Does it feel a little warm? Your hose is working fine. Is it still cool to the touch? There is a problem.

If you have a problem, look at the end of the hose rubber connectors - or rather, the junction between the hose and the rubber connector. Is it damaged, stretched or in any way distorted (as in, you have been less than meticulously careful when separating the hose from mask or machine)?

Do you or a friend own a multi-meter that can measure continuity or resistence? or is there an electrical repair shop near you? Check the circuit is complete from one side of the electrical connector to the other. If it is complete, go back to making sure the power is on. If it is not complete, start unpicking the hose cover and discover what is beneath. Can you see the heating element? Is it possible to repair it? Please let us know.

I am wishing for summer..Right now it's snowing with huge flakes!!.I checked out everything..All looks okay..Seems I did feel a bit of warmer air blowing out the "escape hole"..I sleep with the hose half under the covers with me straight down from the pillows because pullin' it up causes a leak under my nose.So..half the hose is covered and the other half out..No more episodes of gurgling..I dunno!! Maybe a fluke..Will keep yall informed. Thanks TF..

            Heated hose

Hi guys. I need to start from square one! My cpap machine and mask are brilliant but I need advice on a heated hose as the only thing I have a problem with is the cold air. Is it possible to tell me which you use and why? Sam

              A simple answer

Unless you have the CPAP that either comes with a heated hose or one is specifically available for it - and no other - you need an Oz Heated Hose.

              Why?

Because its the only one there is!

Google Aussie heated hose - should get you there. Beware colours when ordering!

.I have busted out laughing..Are we now color coordinating our hose covers..To our bedsheets or jammies??.HA!HA!..Too funny..I love purple..By the way..I haven't had any more rainout with the aussie hose..It happened only twice..I am wondering if it could be that I didn't turn on the humidifier??.Would the water condensate because the difference in air temp..just a thought.

                  I'm stung!

So don't believe me, sleepster! A survey of opinion about Oz heated hose covers might quickly reveal a lot of people sleeping with £70's worth of hose that offends the senses in day-light.

Can you imagine a lurid orange, somewhere between the smells of dog mess when he has the runs and cat vomit when they've both eaten a pound of butter, with a hint of the green of rotting pond weed.

Am I right or am I right, Les?

Mind, the inventor did take on board my point about air-freighting heavy transformers with Oz electrical pins so he might have done something to tone down the colours, too.

OHhhh. I have truly missed out..I would have ordered a bright purple or lime green one..They do say certain colors help to relax a person to fall asleep easier..Must be something to it!! Still giggling though!!

                          Heated Hose

Thanks Tigers Fan. I would not have worked that out by myself. Did you get yours with an english plug or did you have to get an adapter? Sam

                            Maplins

                            Hi Samm66

Mine came with a transformer with Oz pins, so I'd need to fly to Oz and in the Departure Lounge coming home, pick up an adapter for UK sockets.

In the event, I went down to Maplins and bought a transformer for £13 - 12v AC 1000mA out - and asked for the money back from Oz-man. Bless him, he refunded me without a murmer (probably because I asked nicely, presenting a cogent argument, rather than ranting).

This link http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=46107 will take you to the adapter you'd need.
