Hi everyone. Another newbie I'm afraid !
Been a cpap user for about 2 years now and want to go camping again. My machine is a resmed escape S8 and i am enquiring about connecting it to a battery in the cheapest way possible.

Has anyone out there done this already? Resmed have told me that the adaptor lead alone is £49!

    Must be a cheaper way?

Resmed are not easy to run off of batteries due to their input requirements. Resmed provide a guide to using the products on batteries Here.

WhenI camp I use the expensive £300 cpap battery because I travel by motorcycle and I need its small size. I have a respironics machine which will run directly from the battery for three nights without humidifier.

For longer trips I stay on campsites that have electric hookup and just plug into a lead I bought for a tenner off of ebay. Most sites charge about £3-50 to £4-00 a night for hookup. It is vital to keep the lead and machine dry from above and below. I use a plastic storage box with holes in the side to allow leads in and out.

Thanks Andy. Maybe for the small amount of camping I have planned an electric hook up is the cheapest way round it. Thanks again mate!

We actually have one Lio-on Super CPAP Battery pack to give away so keep your eyes out for a contest in the next fortnight (just need some time to conjure up a contest plan).

Yikes! Don't use car battery - other alternatives are safer

I have a ResMed S8 Elite II. You may want to take a look at the GoBe power kit at wattme. It's been a nice option that I can use camping or with my RV. Rather than drain my car or worry about a site's battery hookup the battery gives me easily 8 hours at a pressure 6 setting. In addition I can recharge the battery with its solar briefcase. I've also found the USB, DC, and AC outputs nice for other devices that I typically like to charge like my laptop.

You may also want to look at the S8 Elite II. Very efficient. I converted to it a few months ago. Battery usage is minimal. The one I have is without the humidiaire feature. It is effecient enough that I can easily power it off of my 14.5 amp battery.
