  • My Symptons

    HI,
I have been diagnosed with O.S.A does anyone else have these symptons?
I am very tired when I wake up, after having 9 hours sleep.I could go to sleep again anytime after getting up.
I never just nod-of but if I conciously decide to have a nap in the day anytime I can go to sleep easily, around 5.0p.m is the worst

I have a Muzzy head and feel very weak if do any exercise I feel exhausted.
If I have a daytime sleep then when I wake up I feel worse with bad palpertations, feeling sick, very muzzy head, and feel like I have the flu because I feel so unwell. tests show I have cardiac arrhythmia which can be caused by O.S.A so sent for a sleep test and found to have O.S.A

I have purchased a APAP machine and used for 4 days, the reading says I use 6.2 which I believe is low.
can anyone please give a user any more info?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi and welcome.

What you describe are pretty much the classic symptoms. Great you got a diagnosis and machine.

The "I use 6.2" is a bit puzzling though. Do you mean you use it for 6.2 hours a night or that you have an AHI of 6.2 left? Could you please elaborate on that, the type of machine etc.

At 4 days in, you probbaly need a couple more nights on the CPAP before you start feeling the big differences most have gotten.

I think dogman is referring to the air pressure that the machine shows....

Thank you very much for your reply.
I have now seen different readings of 7.2 and 8.2 this is obtained by taking the power out and it then says mask fit scroll down then power then hours used.
        thanks for any help.

OK so it seems indeed the time you've used the CPAP for the last session (ResMed machine owners please confirm).

Anything over 6, as close to the actual time spent in bed, is good so well done.

Readings aside, how did it go?

            My symptons

            Thanks for the reply.
Used for 4 nights then the bridge of my nose really swelled up and was bright red.
Stopped using for 5 noghts and nose went down, use for 3 nights and nose as was before.
Has anyone any suggestions on helping my nose?
            Thanks

I presume you have tried adusting it - slacking off straps etc to see if it improves things. There are also lost of nasal masks available which dont go near the bridge of the nose - known as nasal pillows - these are lightweight prongs which seal against the nostrils rather than having to seal all the way round your nose. 2 of these are theRespironic OPTILIFE and the Fisher and Paykel OPUS. Both are quite good masks. If you want to stick with the type to go round the nose, the Resmed ACTIVA is a good mask which can reduce the sores area the bridge of the nose. Good luck!

                      my symptons

With the help of plasters etc I seem to be over coming my bridge of my nose problems.
I have worn for 6 nightsw now and do not feel so ill when I get up but still feel very tired.
When I feel so tired I feel that I must a sleep but if I have a daytime sleep when I wake I feel much worse and quite ill, is this normal?

Somewhere in the forum, not so long ago .......

there is a thread about your problem.

The poster had come up with a 'special' sort of plaster that solved his sore nose problem totally.

Sorry, but can't remember off the top of my head what it was called.

I am concerned. You seem to be worse off with CPAP than without. I am beginning to feel the same.....
