  • Just some info please? Hose covers

    Hi Guys,

Since joined up here the other day and reading through these forums I keep seeing these hose covers / sheaths.

I am sorry if this sounds a daft question but can someone tell me what they are and what they do please? I myself as mentioned use nasal pillows and as far as concerned just have an ordinary plastic tube.. I have never expereinced any strange sounds with air rushing through it and since using the pillows not been wet although did when one of my dogs used to knot the longer tube up to wake me up lol.

I use a small tube now and the noly real noise get is when moving around in my sleep but even that doesnt bother me as can sleep through it

Most people get on fine with a standard tube, delivered with their equipment.

But some people don't like the feel of it touching their skin (those who don't wera PJs) at night and others don't like the sound some can make. That's the sound on the inside from the air vibrating or the sound the ribbed hose makes when grinding onthe edge of the bed frame. Others, with humidifiers, have issues with condensation. The warm air from the machine/humidifier cools during its transit in the tube and droplets form, causing water build-up and potentially slushing sounds or wet masks.

A few years, someone clever, somewhere, decided to cover their hose up in a soft fleece sleeve. This makes it nice to touch, makes it look friendlier, isolates against sound and keeps the temperature more steady, reducing the condensation issue.

This recently progressed further to actively heated hose sleeves.

They are easy to make yourself with some inexpensive fleece but if sewing isn't a core competence of yours, I can send you one via this page, or ask your clinic (some may be able to get them via ResMed/Respironics). If you want them with fancy colours or with the logo of your favourite NBA team, check eBay USA. Not yet available with Chelsea or ManU badges unfortunately

I experienced rain fall or whatever it's called early on so tucked the hose into the bedclothes, problem solved. However I knew when I went to the boat where it would definitely be cold that I would need some sort of cover for the hose. I ransacked my wardrobe and found two belts from jumpers that I never wore (the belts not the jumpers!) so I stitched them together and now I have this wonderful pink and purple hose cover that I can mix and match with my wardrobe LOL. I am considering asking the Nanna's that knit the Shreddies to turn their hand to hose covers!
However it did work and I have never since had problems with fallout!

What I am getting at is you can use anything to wrap the hose ( I was going to buy a crepe bandage before I found the belts), keep it warm and nurture it and it will look after you! Water free sleepful nights!
