Eureka!!
I'll wait till the short hose arrives from Intus and completes the rig, before I post photos, James - but I gotta say ........
It works!
Last night was my first with enough of the rig in place to enable me to dangle the mask on the end of the hose vertically downward from a Zerberdy sized spring. And the hose disappears!!
Back to the days of heaving the duvet up round my ears; turning over without a tangle; no hose catching and skewing the mask, waking me with leakage.
I've had the APAP on the bedside cabinet and I've had the APAP above my head, but both with the hose un-supported. With the spring, the weight of the hose is supported except for a few grams (don't want the spring putting tension on the mask) and it disappears virtually straight upward from the mask swivel. It's as if the hose doesn't exist!
Turning over is easy - the mask swivel permits the change of direction while the spring simply flops this way instead of that, following me across the bed.
With me not there, the spring bends a little more and the mask rests gently on the pillow, ready for tonight.
I awoke feeling on top of the world, well slept and rested. This had to be an AHI of zero or one! - but it turned out to be 4, though this included a 30 minute snooze on my back this morning.
Since I've taken Doris into my bed (see Introductions/New hose head bed-partner) my best one night AHI was 2 and for the past week I've averaged 3.8. Les losing weight while I gain it does not detract from my pleasure at this!
Byoing! Time for bed!

Pleased to hear the suspension technique is working for you. You have been quiet for the past few days so I assume you went off to Portugal?

I got over the problem of the hose by allowing it to slide along the top of the bed head which is an arc of tubular metal. The arc makes it return to one side due to gravity and because it is fed up the back of the bed head the weight of the hose keeps sufficient tension on it for the same reason.
