    Caution!!

Water from a de-humidifier is not likely to be very pure unless you live in a totally unpolluted area. The water is most likely to be full of all the soluble gases to be found in our modern atmosphere - your own tubful of acid rain!!

I guess micro-biological beasties might also reside in it, but I don't know this.

I'd not care to breathe the vapour from the water, for sure.

I used the Highland Spring bottled water whilst in North Wales - till I realised the tap water there is very soft anyway! Neither left heavy deposits and both are known to be fit for human consumption.

Highland Spring has got the lowest number of dry residue particles (80ish) that I've seen in the big supermarkets. That should mean the least scaling as far as bottled water is concerned.

        Distilled water

Water on eBay is rather expensive on top of that is postage. If you are using distilled water regularly you are better off buying your own distiller which you can buy on eBay. If you want to know more about the differences of treated water see website www.water-pure.co.uk on the page for data. I sell distilled water in larger quantities but London is too far and would add too much to the cost, unless you are a business with a branch in Bournemouth area which can arrange carriage..

All this talk of de-ionised water and distilled water seems rather over the top. Most manufacturers will recommend that a combination of Boiled cooled water and regular cleaning (at least weekly) should be sufficient to prevent build up of mineral deposits and minimise risk of any infections. Incidentally, you should empty the humidifier every morning and replace with fresh water every night.

Why not ask your doctor to give you a prescription for it? I have just been given three five litre bottles of purified water for my humidifier, all it took was a letter from the hospital to confirm I was using one. I've got it on repeat now, so no messing about with boiled or bottled water.

              No wonder!!!!

Is that the real reason we have the NHS? So we don't have to bother with de-scaling our humidifiers?

I wonder if long waiting lists could be shortened if we were more economical in other areas?

                Hi TF,
                Controversial as usual eh?
After paying out nearly £400 quid to get my machine rather than waiting four months and watching my heart condition getting worse I feel absolutely no guilt in getting them to give me distilled water after paying in to the system for the last 44 years, especially as I had to sign over the machine to the NHS in exchange for a mask and yearly service.
Maybe lowering the pay of the Chief execs of the NHS (my wife worked for them , so she's knows all about the huge payoffs when a chief exec leaves a trust after a year then gets a job in another trust) would alleviate some of the waiting times?
                Just a thought,
                regards,
                Tony.

                  Didn't I just say that?

                  Hi Tony

All I said was 'economical in other areas'.

Controversial? Moi? Asking a question is controversial?

Sorry mate, I read more into your post than was there, I thought you were saying that the NHS shouldn't provide the water, I offer my apologies for being a bit of a spanner.
I tend to still go off on one when I think about the way I was messed around when trying to get treatment, it still grates on me, hence my reading more into your post.
Sorry for any offense caused, it wasn't meant, I've given the cat a good kicking around the room so I feel better now (before anybody reports me to the RSPA I didn't really kick the cat, it was a gerbil)
                    Regards,
                    Tony

                          water

I asked this question when I picked mine up and was advised to try ' The Range' . I think they are dotted around the country but not sure how many or where.

They were selling 1 litre and 5 litre containers of de ionised water.

Think the 5 litre one was £2.99 and the smaller one about 70p.

My reservoir seems to hold enough water for 3 nights and I think the larger container would do 15-20 top ups so works out as about 5p a night to keep it filled.

Just get a Brita filter jug

If you are unlucky enough to live in a hard water area then try using a Brita filter jug to get rid of most of the crap.

De-ionised water is not the same as distilled water!!! Anyway, boiled tap water in the UK is more than sufficient and much more cheaper.

                                Water for cpap

I got 5 litres of the water needed in Halfords for £3.69 and was told this was the cheapest place to buy water. I will need 4 or 5 litres per week as the water used to fill the tank needs to be changed on alternate days.

I was asked to tell my family doctor I needed at least 5 litres of purified sterilised water each week and he has given me a presription for this, I just have to tell him when I am ready for the next 5 litres. I have collected the 1sr lot of water from then chemist when my machine was only 1 day old.
