  • Software to read SD Card

Is there any recommended software to down load so that I can read the data off the SD card in my Resmed S9?

I have searched the internet and it looks like Sleepyhead software might do the trick, has anybody tried this?

    Thanks

Sorry Grim, I belong to the hit the button and hope brigade but there are lots of techy folks here and I think that prog has been mentioned before. If you type it into "Search" along that green line near the top of the window that should help find info.

I tried downloading this programme a few weeks back and it messed up my computer lost my usual browser and it installed a different one. tTotally confused me not being very technical gave the laptop to my son who had to re-programme it so have learnt not to mess unless someone is with me who knows more than I do so still do not have the sleepyhead info. Any tips?

If you are going to start looking at your machine data, you should consider first why you are doing it; what are you going to do with the information you get?

One important piece of advice if you are planning on changing settings based on what you learn... Stats chasers can get hung up trying to improve the numbers, when the numbers aren't the important thing!

The fundamental measure of how effective the therapy is should be how you feel, not what the numbers are. It is too easy to get caught up trying to improve your AHI from 5 to 4. or even to chase zero, when in doing that you end up with disturbed sleep because of the changes and end up feeling worse - improving your AHI is only worth chasing if it actually improves the way you feel.

The other thing to consider is that the effectiveness of the therapy depends on a lot of things, so any changes need to be gradual and be given a chance. your numbers could change due to a cold, the temperature or humidity of the room, the weather, what you ate during the day, drinking, whether you are stressed, how restless a night your partner is having and many many more factors.

I check the effectiveness of my therapy periodically by using a pulse oximeter every couple of months. If that shows I am hitting an AHI of about 5 or less I know the CPAP is being effective, and if I am feeling tired it is probably something else. If I'm not feeling tired at all, then I know it is being effective anyway!

                    Thanks Fredxx,

very well put. I think I was just trying to satisfy my inner stato.

I did get the sleepyhead software to work, but like you say it's probably best to measure things on any improvement on how I feel.

Thanks to all who replied with advice.

                    Cheers

Nothing wrong with looking at your stats, but it is how you feel that counts.

                        hi Fredxx
the only reason i use sleepyhead is to keep an eye on how much "good sleep"" I am averaging nothing else. I do also look at the ahi score mainly for my own peace of mind. I don't really understand what the rest of it means. As an HGV driver I have to be able to show the DVLA at any time they should ask that I am sleeping properly for more than 4hrs each night . So far I have averaged 6hrs over the past 12 months and the ahi is 1.3 so as you can see I have no reason to mess about with the settings as they seem to be right for me

I downloaded Sleepyhead because I'm getting a new (additional) mask of a very different type, and I wanted to see whether there was any difference in therapeutic performance between the two, as that would dictate which was my main mask.

Sleepyhead software downloaded fine. Stats suggested that I had an AHI of 0.00, which delighted me. Days later, stats still said AHI of 0.00. For every day. Suspicious, I downloaded ResScan, in case it was a software compatibility problem. ResScan would only give me the same firm data I already had on Sleepyhead (start and end time for mask use; number of hours of use each night; average daily use over the whole period) but no AHI, which is the information I was after.

A further online search seems to indicate that the ResMed S9 Escape actually does not record (or measure) AHI. Or leaks. It appears to record only compliance data. Frankly, I'm amazed and rather bitter. How on earth can the clinic keep track of whether the settings are any good for me without feedback? I can see the value of compliance data for the DVLA and for the hospital trying to make best use of resources, but how does this help ensure that the patient continues to get effective treatment? When I send my data card in, I will be achieving nothing of benefit for myself or my health (I don't drive) only satisfying the hospital that I am 'compliant' with their requirements. It's infuriating!

                              Whinge over.
