The perfect time for me to wake is when my eyes open, preferably after 7am. I've had sixty-odd years perfecting this technique and do not need electronic assistance. Oh! millions of years, you say! Circadian Rhythm? Evolution?

You can get an app for your apple IPod touch or IPhone for 69p that does the same job and also monitors your sleep quality. It even helped with initial diagnosis before I went on my sleep study.

I have used the sleep app from Zeo on my iPhone - and it was free - but it doesn't pretend to be 100% accurate but claims it is 86% as accurate as the expensive watches. I am interested in the bluetooth Zeo thingy - so would welcome any feedback on that.

I use the SmartWake feature with my Zeo in the morning, it does make a difference for me.

You basically set your wake up time, and then a window before that (say 20 minutes) where you'd be happy to wake up. The Zeo will then wake you up according to which sleep stage you're in.

The reason being, if you're in deep or REM sleep, you'll wake up groggy and it will take 10-20 minutes for you to come to properly. In light slight, you're semi-conscious already, so waking up is not a shock to the system and you wake up feeling alert and ready to go straight away.

It's worth trying out if you do often wake up feeling groggy!

If you're interested in learning more about your sleep (specifically your sleep architecture, what factors influence your sleep, and how to improve your sleep quality) then Zeo is the best tool out there.

Unlike the watches and apps, which use actigraphy to estimate your sleep patterns, Zeo monitors your brain waves. This provides far more accurate results that are comparable to polysomnography results (86% accuracy - not bad for an item that costs 1% of the price).

You can then use the data it collects to improve your sleep, it'll give you advice based on your data to help you do so.

And it also has the SmartWake function to wake you up at the optimal time according to your sleep cycle. And again, as this is based on brainwaves it is more accurate than movement-sensing devices.

You can find out more about the Zeo on the MyZeo.co.uk website.
