  • Humidifiers

Hello Folks, here I am again. I attended the Sleep Clinic on Monday. I was given yet another full face mask to try, Quattro FX. Also the nurse thought a humidifier might help. Unfortunately the new mask is still leaking into my eyes and now the humidifier seems to be aggravating my asthma symptoms. Do other asthma sufferers have this problem ? I would be interested to know.

I found that the humidifier had no effect on my asthma, or possibly it may have actually helped slightly. I did have some problems with my breathing last week. I found that I was getting a little breathless when doing 'normal' jobs around the house plus a few other little symptoms and saw my Dr yesterday. My blood pressure was very low and he is certain that this is my problem. I have read that once on CPAP high blood pressure often drops and it is certainly true in my case! (I have only been using the machine since July this year.) A change in medication should see me right.

Hope you manage to get sorted out soon.

I'm also asthmatic and use a humidifier and have a similar experience to Anniett in that it doesn't make my asthma worse but seems to have improved things. You may need to adjust the humidity settings.

        Humidifiers

Thanks for your replies. The nurse set the humidifier to 3. The second night I was wakened by a noise which sounded like raindrops falling on to a drum. I discovered that lots of water had collected in the hose and that's where the noise was coming from. I have ordered a hose cover and think I have to turn down the setting to 2. Here's hoping !

I have my humidifier on 2 at the moment and it is fine but it all depends so much on the weather! There is so much to learn about using these machines, I don't think it is an exact science. Did you get the PM I sent you?

I just keep enough water in the humidifier for the night when i have the heat bit on. Also the beast (also known as gail - as in gale force) is a bit lower than me so if water builds up i dont have tidal smash if i turn in my sleep.

I have a resmed S9 from the hospital and bought myself one of their heated climate hoses and have never had any bother with rain out.

And if you don't have an integrated heated hose, this universal heated CPAP hose will work wonders for rain-out.

Also make sure your head is higher than the humidifier chamber, so any droplets run back down, instead of collecting in the hose (which a Hose Lift would avoid) or worse, running to your face.

I have a F&P apap and it has a built in dehumidifier. I hate using it but still fill it up with water every night. If I have it switched off do I still need to put the water in?
Any advice would be appreciated as it does not mention anything about it in the manual.
                  Thanks

                    A DE-humidifier? Can I assume typo?

I have no idea about the machine specifics but if the humidifier base does not heat at all when it is switched off then no need for water.

Is it not possible to separate the humidifier from the APAP! Is your machine for sale with and without a humidifier? US sites will readily tell you - and may explain how to separate the two if it is possible.

the humidifier is integrated on the F&P machines. If you have it turned off you can run without water in no problem
