  • If I knew then what I know now

Some of the recent newbie posts got me thinking about what those of us with a few years in would change if starting over.

Would keep a sleep diary from day one to include my own record of appointments and setting/machine/mask changes.

Add a food and drink diary to include amounts and time.

After my initial workshop I was issued a full face mask that I returned when issued with a nasal mask - as they threw it away I should have kept it for periods when I have a cold.

Would have ordered a hose huggie cover in summer so I had one when autumn kicked in.

Would not eat after 7.00 pm but if unavoidable would choose something light and if at home opt for a small bowl of corn flakes.

Would stick to the suggested alcohol limits and try to give up alcohol six days a week.

The above wouldn't suit everyone and wouldn't actually have been met with enthusiasm by me. Keeping a diary would be alien to me, and certainly would not avoid a beer. Now I keep a sleep & food diary and since diagnosed with diabetes as well I am now six months teatotal except for wedding toasts etc.

My GP suggested to help control my diabetes I have two days a week when I don't drink alcohol. I took that on board, now it's the same days every week that are alcohol-free: tomorrow and the day after tomorrow.

Interesting thoughts. I've another that doesn't find its way to conventional therapy but most athletes follow - avoid dairy products. Dairy has the ability to create mucus. Virtually no cyclist takes dairy products because of the element of congestion to breathing that it brings. Food for thought, or otherwise.

Not sure that is a good idea cos Dairy is where you get your calcium from so may be ok for now but when you get older your bones will get thinner and you will end up with osteoporosis etc.

It's a bit of a myth Lorraine. Have a read of this:

OK, you'll probably find alternative reports, but the association between milk and calcium is set in the mind from advertising prior to the realisation that calcium exists in all natural foods. Professional athletes need their elements same as the rest of us so I wouldn't be concerned if their dietary regime excludes dairy - they have professional backing to justify it.

In fact, there are many research findings confirming that milk messes with bone density for the wrong reasons.

Did you know that in Medieval England parents would tie rabbits' feet around their babies’ necks to ward off illness? Doctors would also spit on wounds

This website really sums it up nicely:

You can get all the calcium you need from seeds and nuts etc:

With the SinuPulse, people get a handy booklet which covers this subject. Milk indeed clogs you up, bad for breathing. If any milk, go with fresh goats milk.

Just read it, very interesting, makes a complete mockery of what I have been told I should eat.
I was told, think protein first then dairy then veg and fruit followed by carbs.

Now I have lots to think about.
                Thanks for the links.
