  • CPAP Wraps

Just thought I should tell you all about a vendor on eBay that I found earlier this year.

In my CPAP "rig", I have a heated humidifier (Fisher & Paykel) and although this is a great boon for my poor nose, it resultes in condensation building up in the tubes and mask, especially on cold nights.

That was until I found CPAP Wraps !!

Available in a variety of colours...

This has made a world of difference, enabling me to reduce condensation build up and turn the heat setting up a bit more on the humidifier.

They also do other CPAP related products, ranging from mask strap covers to covers for the CPAP devices themselves.

All products are hand made. This isn't a big company but a lovely lady in the US making these herself. And given the current exchange rate, they are absolute bargains !!

    Visit her shop at http://stores.ebay.co.uk/CPAP-Wraps

Thanks for bringing it up again. Puffin and I discussed them briefly in another thread though they are worthy of their own discussion thread. Puffin ordered one if I remember correctly. I also found a link to an Ozzie supplier of actual heated tubes. Someone in the UK should start doing these wraps! Though they don't look too hard to make so maybe we can DIY some together. My wrap arrived today, that was very quick. Only ordered it last week via e-bay. Arrived in a bubble wrap bag with instructions. Just hold the wrap up and push the pipe into it. One end is elasticated and the other has a pop stud. These fit around the rubbers, making a tight fit.

Yet to try it in anger, put first impression is that it is very soft and warm to the touch. Better than having a cold pipe rub against your skin, or the ribbs rattling against some thing hard during the night.

      Cost £7.76 inc p&p.

If you look at the sellers site, they have wraps for the head bands, I remember a thread, a member was having problems with the straps digging in. This may be the answer to comfort problems a few people seem to have.

Will let you know how I get on tonight.

Well first night with the wrap!

Good and bad points, first noticeable thing was the massive reduction in noise. No more howlling gail sounds. The cpap machine itself is almost silent, its just the air rushing up the pipe that makes it so noisy.

Next, its nice and warm to the touch, no waking up with a cold pipe on your skin.

Its does seem to reduce "rain-out", but as my humidifier runs as a cold pass over unit, I was not expecting a big reduction. Prehaps when the temp. drops later this winter, I will see a larger difference. I suspect that this was designed for a heated unit, helping to insulate against heat loss between machine and mask.

Now the down side, as you roll around in bed the bare tube has a tendency to slide towards the floor, as it has a low friction surface. This means that as you roll towards the machine the pipes slack end up back over the side of the bed out of the way. Put a wrap on it and it does not slide, woke up a few times to push the tube out of the way. At one point I found I was hugging a loop of tube! This can put a little extra strain on the mask which needed a little adjustment each time I rolled over. Saying this I will keep on using it just for the noise and water reduction.
