  • Hiring a battery pack

My husband has had a Resmed S8 Escape II for the last 18 months and we are thinking of going camping next year in a tent in the UK. Does anyone know anywhere that might hire out battery kits so that we don't have to go to the expense of buying everything needed?

    An option

Hi I have the same one, this summer I went to maplin and bought a relatively inexpensive inverter,+/- £40. The car was parked next to the tent so i just used an extension lead into the tent. I used it for two nights and it had no detrimental effect on the battery or the machine. I would advise on checking the ampage if you decide to purchhase one. At the clinic I was told that the machine had the ability to adjust its voltage to accept 100v to 230v, again check with your own clinic before doing so.
    Hope this may help.

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, where we planning on going doesn't allow cars on the site so we need a battery as well. Any ideas?

        Hi brownieowlie!

Hello and welcome to the forums!

My understanding is that a regular car/truck battery should not be used to power a CPAP due to the fact that the CPAP will be drawing a large amount of power from the battery over a long period of time, something which car/truck batteries are not designed for. As a one-off you might be OK doing this but I wouldn't recommend it.

You would be better off with a deep cycle marine battery like some of the ones listed here; http://www.google.co.uk/products?q=d...en&output=nojs. I haven't been able to find any for hire yet, but that said if you and your husband are planning on taking several camping trips a year, then a purchased battery would pay for itself over time compared with hiring one.

I'm assuming that you are travelling to your camping site by bicycle? If so you may want to charge the marine battery at home then securely carry it on your bicycle to use in your tent. Try to buy one with as many Amp Hours (Ah) as possible so your husband won't need to worry about needing to recharge it if you're staying away for a couple of nights.

Alternatively, could you go to a camp site with electric hookups available and connect your husband's CPAP to the mains with a suitable cable? On some sites the supply can be as low as five amps but I believe that should be enough for that particular CPAP model.

        Hope this helps?

        Kind regards
