  • Hose Wrap

I've just got a Humidifier for my CPAP which I've had for 2 nights now.
Last night I had my first rainout! Water spraying in the old mask!

I know you can buy hose wraps and heated hose wraps but i'm wondering if there are free ways to help prevent rainout?
e.g. using a towel wrapped round the hose

    or something like that?

Just can't afford the uncessary expenditure at this stage and i'm thinking the NHS aren't going to give me a wrap!

      One way or another ........

......... you gotta keep the warmer, moist air from the humidifier from cooling - insulate the hose with a wrap, use a heated hose or raise your room temperature.

A towel will insulate the hose but would be very cumbersome, I think. For very little money, you can buy fleece material on-line and make your own wrap.

Reducing your humidifer setting will reduce the rainout as you are - but also reduce the moisture content of the air in your mask.

my humidifier has been on 3 (or whatever the direct middle setting is). Last night it was on somewhere between 1 and 2 which was ok with no rainout.

I might try and get an old long towel to put round it and use some zip ties to keep it on and around the tube

I did look on the resmed site and there was a bit saying about using foil!

it doesn't help that the mask creeps up my face tho!

I'm new to the humidifier too. It should be at a lower level than the bed - is yours? That way, I got just a little rainout at the end of the night. Then I got a hose cover from eu-pap - see last thread - and now it's better. I find it a bit tight, although I apparently should have wrapped the hose in a plastic bag before pushing it through.

Some people knit or crochet the covers, but I couldn't be bothered.

The Swiss self-help group say that CPAP humidifiers are recommended too soon. They think they should be a last resort. First, you should try a room humidifier. These only raise the room temperature by half a degree, and then you get the right sort of humidity of air in the whole room. However, this advice comes too later for me as I have the humidifier now, as you do.

            Just the rubber end

The friction comes from pushing the rubber (or whatever) end of the hose through the wrap. A corner cut from a thin walled plastic bag over the rubber end eases the way.

Yes, of course, it's just the end that needs the plastic bag. Sorry if I was unclear.
