  • Reliable chin strap

    Hi Guys,

I am using a ResMed chinstrap along with my nasal pillows doohickey.
But it keeps slipping off because of my hair. I see plenty of chinstrap options
    out there -- any recommendations?

    Thanks,
    Steve

    Tried a homemade solution last night -- I used a tennis-type headband
to keep all the gear in place. It seemed to work pretty good.

I find that gaffer tape works, just a bit tricky getting it off and leaving your hair intact.

Given up my ResMed S8 Escape and got myself a Sandman Auto from James!
Still using the ResMed Mirage Quattro Full Face Mask

I guess I could have gone for the rugby solution and wrapped my head with a bandage.

Chin Straps, much like masks, are one of those hit and miss products. Based on the experience with our PureSom Chin Straps and Respironics Chin Straps, we get some customers who love them, others come back a week later to try a different one because they didn't like them. It's such a personal experience and again, everybody's head is different. What works for one can fail miserably for another, which doesn't make it easy for people to recommend a certain CPAP chin strap to somebody else.

I had been looking at the Ruby as it seems like a logical design. Too bad there's no such thing as try before you buy.

It's difficult for us to take items like that back too, as you can imagine, no one else would want that one after you. But if you really don't like one, you can try and pass it on here on the forums. Sometimes people don't mind. Can be washed and reused.

After reading lots of reviews I have concluded that commercial chinstraps
are just not going to be worth the money (for my head anyway). So I tried
a homemade remedy using self-adhesive elastic bandage, the kind that sticks
to itself and doesn't require metal clasps. I run the bandage over the nasal
thingamajig, and overlap on top of my heid where it sticks to itself. The
fabric is not bad, doesn't stick to hair or skin, and does a good job of holding
everything in place. I look like a trauma victim but that's not much worse
than looking like some kind of hose-breathing alien.
