  • Resmed Auto Set Spirit II and H4i humidifier- how to switch the blasted heating off?

I am desperate guys! I really cannot comprehend why would designers think that people would love to breath in sauna! The leaflet is so confusing too- there is something brief about turning the warming option off but then it states "not applicable to some machines"....
I don't want to fill the chamber with ice cubes; it would only help for half an hour at most.
The heated water doesn't just get warm- it's positively hot. I might get in touch with the hospital which gave the humidifier to me but I thought I'll try to search for some answers here first.

If the humidifier has its own wall plug, just disconnect it and it will work as a passive "pass-over" humidifier. If it's fully integrated, no extra cables, then there must be a setting on the machine. You can also ring ResMed instead of the hospital, their number is on www.resmed.co.uk

thanks guys. The unit is integrated so I think I'll call Resmed. As for the dial brummy- I think the dial is for the level of humidity not the temperature of the heating pad.

            Hi,
I tried a humidifier on my Resmed S8 but I also couldn't stand the heated air- I felt instantly suffocated.
When the nights were warm and humid a while ago I was putting ice cubes on their own in the humidifier and using it turned off, and it was great to breathe cold air. Now it's a bit cooler at night I just put cold water in it, cures the dry mouth and doesn't make me want to pull the mask off. Maybe when it gets cold at night I'll be able to turn it on and use it.
            Regards,
            Tony.

I have called Resmed people and was told (as brummy explained) that in order to get humidity, the water needs to be warmed up and if I am having a problem, to turn the humidity dial down. Tried it last night and it was a little bit better.
I have made an appt at my hospital anyway now- as I am having proper sores on the bridge of my nose, despite pillow and mask straps so loose that I am risking a leak each time I move.
Two months on- the tiredness and urge to sleep at any given moment is slowly passing away but the technical issues are still a bit of a hassle.

Thanks for being here guys- at least I am not alone with all of this.

                Hi Joanna,

I had bleeding problems with the bridge of my nose from my nasal mask (That is blood from bridge of nose and not slang language . The hospital, Jimmy's in Leeds, immediately changed it to a nose pillow which just offered two little plastic nossles into each nostril and nothing covering my nose nor mouth. I then found that my mouth forced itself open and they gave me a mask which only covers my mouth and has nasal pillows covering my nostrils only. It is very comfortable with no leaking. It is less claustrophobic than the nasal mask and I can read with my glasses on. An exact example can be found at http://www.eu-pap.co.uk/hybrid-full-face-mask.html.
Glad I'm not paying for it! That style of mask might help you! It has been a Godsend for me! I am new also and was worried that I wouldn't settle with any mask. I am feeling much more refreshed now and sleep thorugh till my wee westie, Finbar, wakens me at 5.30am to get out for a wee 'wee', bless the wee rascal!
                Good Luck!
